NIEUWE HOLLANDSE WATERLINIE
Inleiding
ARTILLERIELOODS als niet bomvrije berging op het Verdedigingswerk te Vreeswijk. Op verschillende plaatsen zijn binnen en buiten fortterreinen in de loop der decennia houten, stenen en metalen ('blikken') loodsen tot stand gekomen om te dienen als (provisorische of permanente) bergruimte, opslag, onderkomen voor mensen of materieel, hospitaal, brandweer, paardenstal, wachthuis, enz. Een groot deel van deze loodsen is inmiddels vergaan, gesloopt of verplaatst, maar andere bestaan nog in situ. Soms gaat het om bijzonder eenvoudige bouwwerkjes van geringe omvang, maar er zijn ook meer complexe en grotere exemplaren. Aan de zuidzijde van het werk te Vreeswijk is in 1885 een houten artillerieloods toegevoegd. De dakkapellen en dakramen van dit bouwwerk zijn niet oorspronkelijk. De loods is in 2009 aan de zuidzijde verlengd.
Omschrijving
Aan de keelzijde op het zuidelijk deel van het fort gelegen ARTILLERIELOODS, gebouwd in 1885. De loods is opgetrokken op rechthoekige plattegrond en telt één bouwlaag onder een met gesmoorde pannen gedekt zadeldak. De loods is samengesteld uit geschilderde rabatdelen. De vensters zijn voorzien van houten luiken.
Waardering
De ARTILLERIELOODS op het Verdedigingswerk te Vreeswijk is van algemeen belang vanwege:
* Cultuurhistorische waarde als onderdeel van de Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie zoals deze is ontworpen door C.R.T. Kraijenhoff en in eerste aanleg vanaf 1815 door hem, Jan Blanken en majoor-ingenieur Willem Offerhaus is gerealiseerd en daarna door anderen gedurende ongeveer 125 jaar is versterkt en verbeterd.
* Architectuurhistorische waarden in het bijzonder als uiting van de militair-strategische bouwkunde, die gebaseerd is op: a. het systeem van inundatie en accesverdediging (19de eeuw), b. de wedloop met de zich versterkende offensieve middelen (19de en 20ste eeuw) Het onderdeel is een voorbeeld van een houten bergplaats voor artillerie.
* Ensemblewaarde als onderdeel van de Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie. Tevens vanwege de functionele en fysieke samenhang met de overige onderdelen van het complex.

Introduction
ARTILLERY SHED as non bomb-proof storage on the Defensive Work at Vreeswijk. In various locations within and outside fort grounds over the course of decades wooden, stone and metal ('tin') sheds have been constructed to serve as (provisional or permanent) storage space, storeroom, accommodation for people or materials, hospital, fire service, horse stable, guardhouse, etc. A large part of these sheds has meanwhile decayed, been demolished or relocated, but others still exist in situ. Sometimes these are very simple structures of small size, but there are also more complex and larger examples. On the south side of the work at Vreeswijk a wooden artillery shed was added in 1885. The roof dormers and roof lights of this structure are not original. The shed was extended on the south side in 2009.
Description
The ARTILLERY SHED located on the gorge side on the southern part of the fort, built in 1885. The shed is constructed on a rectangular ground plan and comprises one storey under a gabled roof covered with eaves tiles. The shed is composed of painted rabat sections. The windows are provided with wooden shutters.
Valuation
The ARTILLERY SHED on the Defensive Work at Vreeswijk is of general importance because of:
* Cultural-historical value as part of the New Holland Water Line as designed by C.R.T. Kraijenhoff and initially from 1815 realised by him, Jan Blanken and major-engineer Willem Offerhaus and subsequently by others for approximately 125 years strengthened and improved.
