Inleiding

Description
Introduction
BOILER HOUSE, belonging to the complex Sanatorium De Klokkenberg. The boiler house was built in the period 1951-1953 and was designed by C.H. de Bever and C.M. van Moorsel. It stands on the north-eastern side of the main building of the complex De Klokkenberg. Originally the building contained steel frames and windows and doors.
Description
The BOILER HOUSE is constructed of brick on a rectangular plan and covered with a hipped roof. On the eastern side stands a tall chimney. On the northern, eastern and southern sides the boiler house is surrounded by low wings with flat roofs, which contain offices, workrooms and garages. On the northern façade, in the location of the garages, double wooden doors are present. Above the segmental arch-shaped openings oculi have been installed for ventilation. Inside is an open boiler hall with on the southern and northern sides a service entrance that provides access to the adjoining rooms. The rooms and corridors originally have cladding of yellow brick with a skirting of glazed brick installed in the boiler hall. The room of the supervisor of the boiler hall is executed in iron and glass and accessible via a brick staircase with iron balustrade. The hall has an iron roof truss structure with polonceaux trusses and wooden purlins with wooden roof boarding. The yellow-painted trusses rest on a natural stone block that is placed on a brick wall.
Valuation
The BOILER HOUSE of complex Sanatorium De Klokkenberg is of general importance as an example of early post-war reconstruction:
- because of the ensemble value with respect to the functional and visual relationship between the different complex components;
- because of the high degree of integrity;
- because of the high degree of recognizability;
- of cultural-historical value as part of the sanatorium that contributed to its self-sufficient character.
