GARDEN PAVILION (garden room) WITH RETAINING WALL. Garden pavilion in Baroque style, built between 1725-1727 after a design by Daniël Marot, to the west of the shell gallery on the walking path leading to the second pond. An undercrofted pavilion on a square base with bevelled corners and built of red brick. The cellar is accessible via a red brick external staircase (treads of stone). The north and south sides of the garden house contain a double painted wooden door with motifs and rosettes, above which is a fanlight with wooden glazing bars (5x3). On the east side there is a sash window with painted wooden glazing bars (5x6+3); the west side is closed. The painted cornice with heavily moulded edge is interrupted on all eight sides: above the door sections in the form of a mirror arch with flattened top, above the window and the closed wall in the form of a mirror arch with rounded closure and on the bevelled corners by curved pediments. The eight arch fields are decorated with medallions with cartouche borders, in which a figure and portraits are depicted above the doors and the window. The pavilion roof covered with blue-grey slates is crowned by a square lantern with closed windows with curved pediment. On the lantern a natural stone eagle. Around 2000-2002 the exterior of the pavilion was completely restored. The richly decorated Baroque interior by Daniël Marot was restored in 2002-2004. To retain the slope of the hill of the landscaped park section to the west and north of the pavilion, a red brick retaining wall with curved course, the top of which is lined with pebbles and stones. At the level of the pavilion the retaining wall displays an ornamental pattern of square compartments with pebbles with a round piece of marble at the centre. Between the retaining wall and pavilion a terrace of pebbles with decoration carried out in header-laid stones from the IJssel with a sculptured edge along the retaining wall and in front of the pavilion window a circle containing a flower motif. On the north side a narrow and steep irregular staircase in stone and pebbles leading to the higher-lying park section.
