Omschrijving onderdeel 6: DUIKER
In mergel uitgevoerde DUIKER, bestaande uit twee naast elkaar gelegen tunneltjes, gebouwd haaks onder de oostelijke met beuken beplante singel. De duiker werd omstreeks 1875 gebouwd en werd aan de oostzijde aan weerszijden voorzien van een in mergel uitgevoerde keermuur, aangebracht ter versteviging en bescherming van het talud van de singel. De zuidelijke doorlaat is groter dan de noordelijke doorlaat. Over het mergel tongewelf van de zuidelijke doorlaat is een mantel van baksteen aangebracht. De duiker is gebouwd als doorlaat voor de Geul, wanneer deze buiten de oevers trad. Het is mogelijk dat de zuidelijke doorlaat tevens als doorlaat van vee heeft gediend van de parkweide ten zuiden van Kasteel Schaloen en de weilanden ten oosten van Genhoes en vice versa.

Description
Description component 6: CULVERT
CULVERT executed in marl, consisting of two adjacent tunnels, built at right angles beneath the eastern avenue lined with beeches. The culvert was built around 1875 and was provided on the eastern side on both sides with a retaining wall executed in marl, installed to reinforce and protect the slope of the avenue. The southern opening is larger than the northern opening. Over the marl barrel vault of the southern opening a facing of brick has been applied. The culvert was built as a conduit for the Geul, when this overflowed its banks. It is possible that the southern opening also served as a conduit for livestock from the parkland south of Kasteel Schaloen and the meadows east of Genhoes and vice versa.
