TOEGANGSDAM MET INRIJHEK behorende tot de buitenplaats Nijenhuis.
Het voorplein is toegankelijk via een met gele klinkers bestrate dam, aan weerszijden afgezet met een hardstenen deklijst, waarvan de damwanden uit betonblokken zijn opgemetseld. Op de deklijsten een karakteristieke 19de-eeuwse gietijzeren balustrade bestaande uit eenvoudige balusters verbonden door twee ronde regels die richting voorplein voorzien zijn van vergulde tanden. De dam dateert in zijn huidige vorm vermoedelijk uit het begin van de 20ste eeuw, maar gaat terug op een oudere voorganger. De klinkerbestrating is in de laatste decennia van de 20ste eeuw vernieuwd en vanwege de belasting vermetseld aangebracht. De toegang tot het voorplein wordt gemarkeerd door een dubbel smeedijzeren spijlenhek uit de vroege 18de eeuw. De draaibare delen zijn opgehangen aan rijk geornamenteerde vaste vleugelstukken, waarvan het smeedwerk een barok patroon van krullen en geometrische motieven vertoont. De spijlpunten zijn verguld. Het hek komt van een buitenplaats uit de Beemster en werd in de tweede helft van de 19de eeuw op het Nijenhuis geplaatst, ter vervanging van een eenvoudig laag hek in empirestijl (aquarel H.M. van Eck 1827).

Description
ACCESS DAM WITH CARRIAGE GATE belonging to the country estate Nijenhuis.
The forecourt is accessible via a dam paved with yellow clinker bricks, bordered on both sides with a stone ashlar coping, the dam walls constructed from concrete blocks. On the copings a characteristic 19th-century cast-iron balustrade consisting of simple balusters connected by two round rails, which towards the forecourt are provided with gilded teeth. The dam in its present form presumably dates from the early 20th century, but goes back to an older predecessor. The clinker brick paving was renewed in the last decades of the 20th century and on account of the load was laid with mortar. The access to the forecourt is marked by a double wrought-iron spear-head gate from the early 18th century. The rotating parts are hung on richly ornamented fixed wing sections, of which the wrought ironwork displays a baroque pattern of scrolls and geometric motifs. The spear-head points are gilded. The gate comes from a country estate in the Beemster and was placed at Nijenhuis in the second half of the 19th century, in replacement of a simple low gate in Empire style (watercolour H.M. van Eck 1827).
