Onderdeel 5A
Inleiding
Bouwhuizen behorende tot de buitenplaats Nijenhuis. Ter weerszijden van het voorplein staan rood bakstenen bouwhuizen bestaande uit één bouwlaag en een zolderverdieping onder een schilddak gedekt met gesmoorde Oud-Hollandse pannen voorzien van symmetrisch aangebrachte schoorstenen en dakkapellen. De beide oostelijke eindgevels staan in het water van de kasteelgracht. De verzakte keienbestrating voor de bouwhuizen werd in 1889 op nadrukkelijk advies van Poortman behouden, maar wel opnieuw ingelegd. De bouwhuizen dateren uit de 17de eeuw.
Omschrijving
Het noordelijke BOUWHUIS was aanvankelijk een boerderij en werd later verdeeld in drie woningen. In het laatste kwart van de 20ste eeuw zijn deze woningen samengevoegd tot één huis, dat tegenwoordig als onderkomen dient voor één van de eigenaars. In de symmetrische voorgevel een licht risalerende middenpartij waarin centraal een dubbele openslaande deur met roedeverdeling en meerruits bovenlicht, geflankeerd door schuifvensters met kleine roedenverdeling (3x7). In het linker en het rechterdeel een deur met meerruits bovenlicht geflankeerd door identieke schuifvensters met kleine roedenverdeling (4x7), waarvan het meest oostelijke venster voorzien is van persiennes.
Aan de achterzijde komt het dak ongeveer een meter lager uit dan aan de voorzijde. De beide eindgevels zijn als het ware verlengd in noordelijke richting. Ze lopen aan de noordzijde schuin naar beneden, zodat het idee van een afgewolfd schilddak ontstaat. In de achtergevel onder meer verschillende vierruits vensters en een deur; tegen het westelijke deel een houten aanbouw die aansluit op de schuin aflopende westelijke eindgevel. In de westelijke eindgevel vier schuifvensters met grotere roedenverdeling (2x3). In de oostelijke eindgevel twee schuifvensters als in de voorgevel voorzien van persiennes en een klein (ontluchtings)venster.
Waardering
Het noordelijke BOUWHUIS van twee bouwhuizen behorende tot de buitenplaats Nijenhuis is van algemeen belang:
- vanwege de ouderdom;
- vanwege de karakteristieke, gaaf bewaarde, eenvoudige, harmonieuze en doelmatige vormgeving;
- vanwege de kenmerkende ligging in de oorspronkelijke 17de-eeuwse parkaanleg;
- vanwege de aanwezigheid van een gaaf bewaarde 19de-eeuwse stal- en koetsinrichting in het zuidelijke bouwhuis;

Introduction
Outbuildings belonging to the country estate Nijenhuis. On either side of the front courtyard stand red brick outbuildings consisting of one storey and an attic storey under a hipped roof covered with damp-laid Old Dutch tiles furnished with symmetrically arranged chimneys and roof lights. Both eastern end gables stand in the water of the castle moat. The sunken stone paving in front of the outbuildings was retained in 1889 on Poortman's explicit advice, but was re-laid. The outbuildings date from the 17th century.
Description
The northern OUTBUILDING was originally a farmhouse and was later divided into three dwellings. In the last quarter of the 20th century these dwellings were combined into one house, which today serves as accommodation for one of the owners. In the symmetrical front gable a slightly projecting central section in which centrally a double opening door with glazing bars and multi-pane fanlight, flanked by sash windows with small glazing bars (3x7). In the left and right sections a door with multi-pane fanlight flanked by identical sash windows with small glazing bars (4x7), of which the most easterly window is furnished with shutters.
On the rear side the roof comes out approximately one metre lower than at the front. Both end gables are, as it were, extended in a northerly direction. They slope downwards on the north side, so that the impression of a rounded hipped roof is created. In the rear gable among other features various four-pane windows and a door; against the western section a wooden extension which adjoins the sloping western end gable. In the western end gable four sash windows with larger glazing bars (2x3). In the eastern end gable two sash windows as in the front gable furnished with shutters and a small ventilation window.
Valuation
The northern OUTBUILDING of two outbuildings belonging to the country estate Nijenhuis is of general importance:
- on account of its age;
- on account of the characteristic, well-preserved, simple, harmonious and functional design;
- on account of the characteristic location in the original 17th-century park layout;
- on account of the presence of a well-preserved 19th-century stable and carriage house in the southern outbuilding;
- on account of the functional-spatial relationship with the other components of the country estate.
