Inleiding
Waardering

Description
Introduction
The SHEET PILE SHED belonging to the 'Buma' pumping station complex was built in 1939-1941 on behalf of Rijkswaterstaat, Department of State Service Ijsselmeer Polders (R.IJ.P.). The design for the sheet pile shed, erected in a functionalist style, was like the designs for the pumping station and the other buildings belonging to the complex, by engineer D. Roosenburg (The Hague). Responsible for the construction of the complex was the Department of Zuiderzee Works, Northern Polder Works division. The finishing of the buildings was done in 1940 by the firm Rietveld & Verdoorn's Contracting Company (Papendrecht). The sheet pile shed, located at the upper head of the lock, opposite the lock keeper's cottage, lost its original function when a modern, steel emergency gate was installed in the seventies.
Description
The sheet pile shed is constructed from a rectangular floor plan in fair-faced brick on a concrete substructure and has a steel skeleton (firm Braat). The shed stands under a projecting, improved Dutch tile-covered gabled roof. The facade corners are accentuated by the white-painted steel skeleton parts, which also face three of the four facades. The concrete substructure of the shed is blind on the long side facing the polder. The brick long facade of the superstructure, divided by the steel frame members into three rectangular sections, contains three round windows with the original steel frames. The left gable end, oriented towards the lock, divided by a steel stanchion and beam into three sections, contains a rectangular window under a lintel with steel frame in the rectangular lower facade sections. The five-sided gable top is blank. The superstructure on the rear long side is identical to that on the polder side with the difference that above each window a steel ring projects from the facade. The right gable end contains a large, recessed door, which stands half in the concrete substructure and half in the brick superstructure.
Valuation
