Inleiding

Description
Introduction
Rectangular FARMHOUSE from the second half of the 18th century, originally part of a complex consisting of a farmhouse with grain loft, substantial longitudinal barn and small barn on a partly moated plot beside the river Mark, now the Mark-Vliet Canal. The house is built in artisanal-traditional style. Alterations in 1871 and 1961. The large barn burnt down in 1993, the other barn was demolished earlier. The house was in French ownership during the nineteenth century.
Description
Single-storey farmhouse under gabled roof on rectangular plan with recently added kitchen. The house is built of Ijssel brick which was subsequently whitewashed and plastered on the weather side (rear facade). The original front facade with corner pilasters and central projection has five, largely authentic 35-pane sash windows, the middle one since 1961 in place of the original entrance, which had a tree of life in the fanlight. Sandstone window sills and double hinged shutters with circular cut-out in the upper half. Ten wall anchors, four of exceptional length with two straps each. The plastered rear facade with simply moulded frieze reveals in its layout on the left the position of a cellar with upper room and three 6-pane fixed windows. Beside it originally two large 9-pane fixed windows, now without glazing bars. One of these, directly opposite the front door, was originally the rear entrance. All windows have double shutters. The right side facade contains an entrance and a wc slot window, both from 1961. Originally still present are the barred arched cellar window on the right, the narrow 21-pane sash window on the left and the solid loading shutter with hoist beam at loft level in the middle. The left side facade contains, besides a kitchen extension from 1961, at the top of the facade a barred pentagonal point window between two square windows. The gabled roof with generous overhang and moulded gutter ends is covered with swept cross pantiles, apparently from 1871. The original polygonal chimneys at the ridge ends have been replaced by rectangular ones. The frames and doors are standard green, the windows painted white, while the shutters are green with white panels.
In the interior, modified in 1961 by the relocation of the entrance, the old layout with a corridor dividing the house in two is still recognisable. Against the rear facade a spacious cellar, now with concrete ceiling. The springing of two transverse barrel vaults with relieving arch to the cellar window is still recognisable. Above this an upper room. Several late nineteenth-century panelled doors. A particular feature is a displaced wooden wall cupboard in late eighteenth-century forms under French influence, now with sliding doors. The original ceilings are concealed from view. The roof truss of the grain loft, accessible via a folding ladder from the upper room, was largely renewed in 1871 using old oak components. Four pine rafter pairs with straight legs, connected to each other by two collar beams placed one above the other, which support the purlins, carry the boarded roof truss. The lower collar beam is braced on short posts. Purlin plates. On the loft still a built-in bed for a resident farmhand.
Valuation
The formerly prestigious farmhouse is of general interest. It is of cultural-historical significance as an example of the development of the farmhouse in the young polder land of West Brabant. It is of architectural value because of the relatively well-preserved architecture with original sash windows with fine-meshed glazing bars and the presence in the interior of a wooden wall cupboard in French eighteenth-century forms. It has ensemble value because of the high quality of the built environment and the historical-spatial relationship with the open polder landscape, particularly because of its location on a partly moated plot beside a dike.
