Omschrijving
Omschrijving onderdeel 1: HOOFDHUIS.
Waardering
Het HOOFDHUIS is van algemeen belang:
- vanwege de ouderdom;
- vanwege de architectuurhistorische waarden van zowel exterieur als interieur;
- vanwege typologische waarden (ontwikkeling versterkte huizen);
- vanwege zijn beeldbepalende ligging aan de Vecht.

Description
Description component 1: MAIN HOUSE.
The main house of the complex historic country estate Oudaen, originally dating from the late 13th century, is located on an island surrounded by a moat. The moat, island and main house lie quite close to the Vecht. The main entrance to the house is on the south side where a wooden bridge crosses the moat. A second, subordinate bridge is situated on the north side. The house fills almost the entire island, on which there is no further building nor any historically valuable landscaping. The exterior of the house still shows the medieval condition of two parallel wings each consisting of an above-ground vaulted cellar, three storeys above it and each covered with a pantile gabled roof between stepped gables. The west facades are executed as stepped gables, ending in a chimney. Against these facades were originally the fireplaces. Since the late 16th century a hexagonal turret on a heavy console from the third storey connects the two wings. The turret has a bell-shaped roof covered with lead. The east facades are executed as spout gables. These facades are almost completely blank and are further concealed from view due to the extension. On this side resting on both roof ridges is a timber construction on which a small bell has been fitted. The north facade shows a more or less regular facade arrangement with four windows at the height of both storeys and two windows at the height of the piano nobile. The windows of the first storey are still cross windows with shutters. From the other two storeys these have been renewed to glazed sash windows. On the roof plane stands a roof dormer with a hoist beam. The west facade has respectively two windows on the piano nobile, four on the first storey and two windows on the second and several small windows in the gable. The windows of the piano nobile plus the most southerly window of the first storey are enlarged to glazed sash windows. The remaining windows are a cross window and two cloister windows. The facade shows the necessary construction traces of, among other things, older windows. The south facade has three windows on the first storey and two on each subsequent one; all windows here are enlarged to glazed sash windows. In the brickwork closed old window openings can be seen. The facade is terminated by a brick dentil course. On the roof plane stands a roof dormer. The entrance door on this side is located in the extension. The extension is built on an overhang from the height of the piano nobile to two storeys closed off with a pantile hipped roof. The brickwork above the overhang has a decorative pattern and is terminated by a drip moulding. On this side furthermore two windows and one above, all with glazed sash windows. The south facade of the extension has become the entrance facade with on the right a door section from circa 1615 in a timber frame of pilasters with a tympanum. In the tympanum the coat of arms of Oudaen, a red St. Andrew's Cross on a golden field, above which a silver bearing iron with three feet. In front of it lies a high brick stoop with natural stone steps. Further one window next to the door and one on the storey, both with glazed windows. In front of the stoop, across the moat lies a wooden drawbridge. The stoop and bridge were renewed in 1981 according to an old model. The stair tower from circa 1590 is located in the corner of the extension and the north wing. It is a semi-circular tower with several small windows and is covered by a flat roof. The stair tower connects the cellar and the first two storeys with each other. On the interior of the house essentially little has changed. Both cellars are large undivided spaces covered with a barrel vault and provided with several light slits. The halls of the first storey are later subdivided, whereby a smaller room is separated on the east side and in the south wing moreover a short corridor. A similar situation occurs in the south wing on the second storey. The north wing has retained its hall over the full length here. The third storey is further subdivided with a number of rooms. The roof trusses are entirely undivided with only in the north wing a recent installation for technical facilities. The roof truss on the oldest part dates from the 16th century and consists of oak roof timbers. The construction has been adapted several times later. The roof truss on the northern wing likewise has oak timbers; here is a large hoist wheel. Furthermore are encountered the wall plates and tie beams, partly with key pieces, floor joists, wooden partition walls, doors, a 16th-century spiral staircase from the second storey to the attic. The chimneys have been renewed in more recent times, for example the 19th-century marble chimney or reconstructed medieval chimneys. In the extension on the lowest storey there has traditionally been a kitchen with against the inner wall a large fireplace section and ovens. In the passage to the cellars on the left the staircase originally embedded in the wall thickness of this oldest building part is visible. The space above is traditionally used as a reception room or hall, originally probably undivided, currently with further subdivision.
Valuation
The MAIN HOUSE is of general importance:
- because of its age;
- because of the architectural historical values of both exterior and interior;
- because of typological values (development of fortified houses);
- because of its landmark location on the Vecht.
