Omschrijving
Inleiding

Description
Introduction
Former CASTLE FARMHOUSE, built in artisanal-traditional construction style and dating from the first half of the 18th century. The farmhouse was originally part of the castle of Mierlo located on the opposite side of the road, of which all traces have been erased. Extensive renovation to a residential farmhouse around 1971.
Description
Single-storey three-aisled hall house with tie-beam trusses and transverse section under thatched gabled roof with half-hipped roofs. On the ridge with ridge thatch two brick chimneys, not in their original position. The property is built from large-format brick, which above a black plinth is entirely whitewashed. The front gable stands perpendicular to the road, the front courtyard is paved. In the front gable the front of the oak tie-beam is left exposed. Since there are no traces of original shorn timbers or corbels visible on this side, which would indicate a shortening of the farmhouse, it must be assumed that this situation is authentic. The front gable is asymmetrically arranged. On either side of the renewed front door with a three-pane fanlight is a 16-pane window with fanlight, double casements and a brick step, installed around 1950. The double shutters with carved heart motif renewed around 1971. Above the tie-beam at the location of a small attic hatch a multi-pane window. To the right of the post a barred cellar window above which the window of the upper room. To the right of this below a shallower roof pitch an extension (construction joint) for the scullery. Next to the left post under a slightly raised roof the blind wall of a boarded-off room in which sleeping alcoves for the daughters stood. Above this under the roof slope an original shutter with old wrought hinges, giving access to a small attic where walnuts were dried. At the height of the tie-beam in the wall sections of the side aisles on both sides a small wrought heart-shaped wall anchor. The long gable on the left is parallel to the road behind several young linden trees. On the far right the gable projects slightly for the room for the daughters, with two six-pane windows with casements, fanlight and brick steps. On the far left the still original double split doors and a stable door, at the height of the former cow stable a large number of identical six-pane windows, installed around 1971. The rear gable is entirely blind except for a few small ventilation openings. The long gable on the right has on the far left an extension under a less steeply pitched roof for a scullery with conservatory. Windows and doors from 1971. In the right roof plane two large dormers with windows with glazing bars.
In the interior, in addition to the seven virtually intact oak tie-beam truss pairs (carpenters' mark "eitjes") of the original layout, the small cellar with 3 stone steps and barrel vault to the right next to the front door is still recognisable. Above it a small upper room with original red tiles and an oak staircase to the attic. In the interior several old doors with ironwork in oak frames. The cow stable has been converted to living space. The roof structure above the residential section was renewed in 1971 and finished. The former barn section is still completely intact, complete with a hayloft all around on intermediate beams on which heavy round timber logs rest. The roof structure here too is still more or less original, with very steeply placed round timber common rafters. In the rear gable small rectangular ventilation openings, now closed with glass.
Valuation
The former castle farmhouse from the first half of the 18th century is of general interest. The house has cultural-historical value as a special expression of socio-economic development, as an example of a castle farmhouse in East Brabant. The property has architectural-historical value because of the internally and externally well-preserved main structure and the traditional use of materials as well as because of interior components. The property is typologically and as the last tangible remnant of the castle of Mierlo of significance.
