Description of component 1: (Schellerbergweg 18)

The COUNTRY HOUSE belonging to the historic country estate Schellerberg was designed in 1876 in an eclectic architectural style with neo-Renaissance elements. The house was built around an older and smaller house, very probably the original barn, which has been partially preserved within the current house. Extensions of one storey have been added to both end gables of the country house. The house is constructed on a rectangular plan over two storeys beneath a hipped roof with glazed anthracite-grey Dutch tiles and an overhanging gutter line. In the 1930s the flat section of the hipped roof was replaced with zinc. The facades, plinths and chimneys in the roof planes above the end gables are rendered. On the corners of the facades pilasters and between the ground floor and first floor a drip moulding and string course. A simple cornice beneath the gutter. The front facade (N) has five window bays, of which the middle three project. The arched windows with fanlights are set in frames with hood mouldings. In the centre above the projecting section is a roof dormer with pediment and cheeks. On the left in the projection is the entrance; a double glazed door with ornamental ironwork and a fanlight. Across the entire width of the house (S) is a veranda with a lean-to roof supported on cast-iron columns. Along the roof edge an ornamental border of wooden leaves is fitted. Two glazed walls with glazing bars close the veranda at the ends. The four window bays of the rear facade (S) contain rectangular windows with fanlights. On the ground floor two double glazed doors, one with stained glass in the fanlight. On the first floor the T-windows are only slightly arched, set in frames with hood mouldings and hung with interior shutters. In the left side gable (E) above the extension a rectangular two-pane window. In the right side gable (W) two arched windows on the ground floor and a rectangular window on the first floor, all three with fanlights.

Interior

Within the house, thicker older walls indicate that the two rooms at the front (N) of the house form part of the old core. The hall (E) is furnished with a marble floor, marbled wainscoting and two richly moulded semicircular arches with Composite capitals. Below are the passages to the kitchen and the staircase to the first floor. Adjacent to the hall behind the front door is a second hall. This is accessible from the veranda and has marble on the floor and marble wainscoting. In a number of rooms among other things the internal shutters, window sills on carved consoles, the wooden floors and beam ceilings have been preserved. Also still present are among other things original panelled doors, double windows and a marble fireplace. In the kitchen there is a granito floor and parts of the walls and the inside of the fireplace are respectively covered with tiles and marbled tiles.
