Inleiding
Het Heilig Hartbeeld ligt ten noorden van de kapel van het voormalige Missiehuis St. Franciscus Xaverius, aan het eind van een lange beukenlaan. Het beeld werd op 1 juni 1930 ingewijd. Het heeft een traditioneel Neo-gotische vormgeving, de sokkel heeft de stijl van de Art Déco.
Omschrijving
Het beeld staat op een voor dit doel gegraven heuvel. De sokkel is trapvormig met drie treden en uitgevoerd in machinale baksteen, met geometrische decoratie van donkergroen geglazuurde baksteen. De afdekplaten en console zijn van hardsteen. In de baksteen is een plaquette aangebracht, met onleesbaar geworden tekst. Het meer dan levensgrote Heilig Hartbeeld is uitgevoerd in kunststeen, gewit en met een rood geschilderd Heilig Hart met stralenkrans. De Christusfiguur staat met uitgespreide armen, achter het hoofd een opengewerkt vierpasaureool.
Waardering
Het Heilig Hartbeeld is van algemeen belang. Het maakt deel uit van een complex van cultuurhistorisch belang als voorbeeld van de ontwikkeling van het katholicisme, in het bijzonder de stichting van kloosters en missiehuizen door congregaties ten behoeve van de opleiding van hun leden. The Sacred Heart statue is located north of the chapel of the former Mission House St. Francis Xavier, at the end of a long beech-lined avenue. The statue was inaugurated on 1 June 1930. It has a traditional Neo-Gothic design, the pedestal is in the Art Deco style.
Description
The statue stands on a mound specially dug for this purpose. The pedestal is stepped with three steps and executed in machine-made brick, with geometric decoration of dark green glazed brick. The cover plates and console are of hardstone. A plaque has been mounted in the brick, with text that has become illegible. The more than life-size Sacred Heart statue is executed in artificial stone, whitewashed and with a red painted Sacred Heart with radiating crown. The figure of Christ stands with outstretched arms, behind the head an open-worked quatrefoil halo.
Valuation
The Sacred Heart statue is of general importance. It forms part of a complex of cultural-historical importance as an example of the development of Catholicism, in particular the establishment of convents and mission houses by congregations for the training of their members. The whole has ensemble value because of the coherence of the components and the setting in a landscape environment with, among other things, tree-lined avenues. It has been preserved in its main features in good condition.
