Omschrijving
Inleiding.
Op de katholieke begraafplaats aan de Bredaseweg bevindt zich temidden van de graven van volwassenen het dubbele GRAFMONUMENT van de kinderen Sträter. Het werd hier geplaatst bij het overlijden van Th.F.M. Sträter in 1876. In 1885 werd in hetzelfde graf A.M.Th. Sträter bijgezet. Het gietijzeren beeld dat het graf siert werd waarschijnlijk in Zuid-Nederland of België gegoten.
Omschrijving.
Grafmonument bestaande uit een geknielde engel op een sokkel met twee zerkstenen. Op een bakstenen fundering rust een hardstenen basement met afgeschuinde bovenzijden. Hierop een vierkante sokkel met geprofileerde dekplaat en in de spaarvelden op de zijden van de sokkel witmarmeren platen met opschriften. Links de tekst: 'Hier rust ons / dierbaar kind'. Aan de voorzijde 'Theodor / bid voor ons'. Op de achterzijde de tekst 'in de ouderdom / van 21 maanden'. Het opschrift aan de rechterzijde is niet leesbaar. Op de sokkel een gietijzeren geknielde engel, de handen gevouwen onder de kin, het hoofd opgeheven. Op de rug gespreide vleugels. Het beeld is voorzien van een gelige verflaag. Aan voor- en achterzijde van de sokkel een kleine oplopende zerk met opschrift. Aan de voorzijde 'Hier rust / ons dierbaar kind / Theodor Frederik Maria / Sträter / overleden den / 13 december / 1876'. Op de zerk aan de achterzijde 'Hier rust / ons dierbaar kind / Antonia Maria / Theodora Sträter / overleden den / 9 augustus 1885'.
Waardering.
Het monument is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociale en geestelijke ontwikkeling, in het bijzonder de katholieke grafcultuur. Het is tevens van belang vanwege het bijzondere materiaalgebruik zijnde gietijzer, en de typologie door de uitvoering als een tweezijdig grafmonument. On this a square pedestal with profiled cover plate and in the spandrels on the sides of the pedestal white marble plates with inscriptions. On the left the text: 'Here rests our / dear child'. On the front 'Theodor / pray for us'. On the rear the text 'at the age / of 21 months'. The inscription on the right side is not legible. On the pedestal a cast-iron kneeling angel, the hands folded under the chin, the head raised. On the back spread wings. The image is provided with a yellowish coating.
