Inleiding.
Op de katholieke begraafplaats aan de Bredaseweg staat het Neo-Gotische GRAFMONUMENT van de familie De Charro. Frederik Nicolaas de Charro, geboren in Den Haag, had zich later in Tilburg gevestigd als wollenstoffenfabrikant en kassier. Het grafmonument op de begraafplaats aan de Bredaseweg werd omstreeks 1899 geplaatst en is vervaardigd in het atelier van V. Barette.
Omschrijving.
Grafmonument bestaande uit een portico op een tombe. Het geheel in hardsteen uitgevoerde grafmonument met Neogotische elementen bestaat uit een oplopende tombe met op de zerksteen het opschrift 'In memoriam / Fredericus N.I. de Charro / *1-8-1890 +11-11-1940 / Helena de Charro / *2-2-1887 +1-12-1955'. Achter de tombe een samengestelde opstand in de vorm van een portico. Op de basis van de portico het opschrift 'Mijn Jezus Barmhartigheid'. Op deze basis een nis onder rondboog op granieten zuiltjes met dobbelsteenkapitelen. In de achterwand van de nis een rond venster met glas-in-lood vulling, voorstellende de stervende Christus met doornenkroon. Hieronder in de nis een hardstenen plaat met opschrift 'F.N. de Charro / 1851-1899 / mevrouw / Helena E.M. de Charro- / Bellini / 1849-1921'. De nis wordt bekroond door een topgevel met licht uitkragende schouders, het geheel onder een ezelsrug. Op de topgevel het PX-monogram en de letters A(lpha) en O(mega). Op de top een kruis. Op de tombe, rechtsvoor, de signatuur 'V. Barette'.
Waardering.
Het monument is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociale en geestelijke ontwikkeling, in het bijzonder de katholieke grafcultuur. Het is tevens van belang vanwege de typologie in combinatie met het materiaalgebruik, door de toepassing van glas-in-lood in een in de stijl van een portico opgericht grafmonument. Het grafmonument verkeert ook nu nog technisch in een goede staat. Het object is bovendien van belang als onderdeel van een groter geheel dat cultuurhistorisch, architectuurhistorisch en stedenbouwkundig van belang is als de eerste katholieke begraafplaats in Tilburg.

The grave monument, executed entirely in hardstone with Neo-Gothic elements, consists of a rising tomb with on the slab the inscription 'In memoriam / Fredericus N.I. de Charro / *1-8-1890 +11-11-1940 / Helena de Charro / *2-2-1887 +1-12-1955'. Behind the tomb a composite pediment in the form of a portico. On the base of the portico the inscription 'My Jesus Mercy'. On this base a niche under a round arch on granite columnettes with cube capitals. In the back wall of the niche a round window with leaded-glass filling, depicting the dying Christ with crown of thorns. Below in the niche a hardstone plate with inscription 'F.N. de Charro / 1851-1899 / Mrs / Helena E.M. de Charro- / Bellini / 1849-1921'. The niche is crowned by a stepped gable with slightly projecting shoulders, the whole under a saddle roof. On the stepped gable the PX monogram and the letters A(lpha) and O(mega). At the top a cross. On the tomb, right front, the signature 'V. Barette'.
Valuation.
The monument is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of a social and spiritual development, in particular Catholic grave culture. It is also of importance because of its typology in combination with the use of materials, through the application of leaded glass in a grave monument erected in the style of a portico.
