Inleiding.
Op de katholieke begraafplaats aan de Bredaseweg staat het GRAFMONUMENT van de fabrikant van wollen stoffen Josephus A.N. Pollet. Het grafmonument werd gemaakt door de firma L. Petit te Tilburg en omstreeks 1905 geplaatst.
Omschrijving.
Geheel uit zwart graniet vervaardigt grafmonument in de vorm van een hoog oprijzende gebeeldhouwde opstand. Opstaand grafteken bestaande uit een ruw granieten, getrapte sokkel waarop een granieten gebeeldhouwde opstand. De opstand, met elementen van de Art Deco, heeft een risaliserend middendeel dat tevens uitsteekt boven de naar achter wijkende zijdelen. Aan de basis van de risaliet het opschrift 'Zij die hopen in de verdiensten van / Uw heilig lijden, zullen niet / beschaamd worden'. Hierboven, in een rechthoekig kader, het opschrift 'Tot dierbaar / aandenken van / onzen geliefden / broeder / den weled. heer / Josephus / Aloysius / Nicolaas / Pollet / geb. te Tilburg / den 25 sept. / 1848 / en aldaar / overl. / den 30 aug. / 1903'. Boven de tekst, in een nis, een in hoogreliëf uitgevoerde Christuskop met gesloten ogen. Tekst en portret zijn omgeven door een gestyleerde doornenkroon. Op de twee naar achter wijkende zijdelen een herhaling van deze decoratie. Het grafmonument is rechtsonder op de opstand gesigneerd 'L. Petit'.
Waardering.
Het monument is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociale en geestelijke ontwikkeling, in het bijzonder de katholieke grafcultuur. Het is tevens van belang vanwege de typologie en de uniciteit, met name door de wijze van vormgeven. Het is bovendien van belang als onderdeel van een groter geheel dat cultuurhistorisch, architectuurhistorisch en stedenbouwkundig van belang is als de eerste katholieke begraafplaats van Tilburg.

A grave monument entirely made of black granite in the form of a tall rising sculptured elevation. An upright grave marker consisting of a rough granite stepped base on which a granite sculptured elevation. The elevation, with elements of Art Deco, has a projecting central section which also projects above the receding side sections. At the base of the projection the inscription 'Those who hope in the merits of / Your holy suffering, shall not / be ashamed'. Above this, in a rectangular frame, the inscription 'In loving / memory of / our beloved / brother / the honourable / sir / Josephus / Aloysius / Nicolaas / Pollet / born in Tilburg / on 25 Sept. / 1848 / and there / died / on 30 Aug. / 1903'. Above the text, in a niche, a Christ head executed in high relief with closed eyes. The text and portrait are surrounded by a stylised crown of thorns. On the two receding side sections a repetition of this decoration. The grave monument is signed at the bottom right on the elevation 'L. Petit'.
