Inleiding.
GRAFMONUMENT op de katholieke begraafplaats aan de Bredaseweg van het echtpaar Moller-Bourgonjon. H.E.W. Moller (1869-1940) was de emancipator en oprichter van enkele belangrijke grote onderwijsinstellingen in het Zuiden van Nederland waaronder de Katholieke Leergangen en Ons Middelbaar Onderwijs. Hij was tevens lid van de Tweede Kamer (1925-1940). Op de zerk staat ook de naam vermeld van Moller's zoon die op 10 mei 1940 sneuvelde bij de verdediging van het vliegveld Valkenburg. Het in baksteen opgetrokken grafmonument werd omstreeks 1940 vervaardigd door aannemersbedrijf J. Dekkers & Zn. Het ontwerp is hoogstwaarschijnlijk van de hand van Moller's zwager, de beeldhouwer G.P.D. Bourgonjon, welke ook het grafmonument voor het echtpaar Lodewijk Frans Bourgonjon-Roeland vervaardigde. G.P.D. Bourgonjon richtte aan de Academie te Tilburg, een onderwijsinstelling die mede door toedoen van H. Moller was opgericht, de afdeling beeldhouwkunst op.
Omschrijving.
Het grafmonument heeft een in rode baksteen gemetselde, getrapte rand met op de hoeken gemetselde lage kolommen afgedekt met een terracotta tegel. De rand omgeeft een schuin oplopende, hardstenen zerk met opschrift 'Alice E.Th Moller-Bourgonjon / geb. 28 sept. 1873 overl. 16 maart 1958 / Hr. Hendrik Willem Evert / Moller / geb. 8 nov. 1869 overl. 6 dec. 1940 / M... (onleesbaar) Wilh. Willibrordus Maria / Moller / reserve luitenant 4 R.I. / geb. 29 maart 1911 gestorven 10 mei 1940 / Wanneer dit tijdelijke leven eindigt / begint het eindeloze leven / aan God alleen bekend / en zaligen alleen gegeven'. Aan het hoofdeinde een uit gele baksteen gemetselde opstand, bestaande uit twee kolommen met terracotta dekplaten waartussen een muur met uitgemetseld kruis. Op de voorzijde hiervan twee in laagreliëf uitgevoerde bronzen portretten, voorstellende H. Moller en zijn vrouw met respectievelijk als opschrift '1869 8 nov / 1940 6 dec / Dr. H.W.E. Moller' en '28 sept 1873 / 16 maart 1958 / A.E.Th. Moller-Bourgonjon'. Beide portretten zijn gesigneerd 'G.Bourgonjon'. Op de opstand, onder de portretten, in bronzen letters het opschrift 'Dr. H.W.E. Moller / 1869 - 1940'. Aan de voet van de opstand een bakstenen plantenbak. Op de rechter voorzijde is op een tegel de signatuur 'J. Dekkers & Zn / aannemers' aangebracht. Een bronzen kruis, dat gezien de sporen boven de portretten was aangebracht, is verdwenen.
Waardering.
Het monument is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde vanwege het, voor de periode waarin het grafmonument tot stand kwam, bijzondere materiaalgebruik en de opvallende uitvoering. Het grafmonument vormt tevens een verwijzing naar een belangrijke sociale en geestelijke ontwikkeling door middel van de hier begraven personen welke nauw betrokken waren bij de totstandkoming van eigen, katholieke onderwijsinstellingen in het Zuiden van Nederland. Het object is bovendien onderdeel van een groter geheel dat cultuurhistorisch, architectuurhistorisch en stedenbouwkundig van belang is als de eerste katholieke begraafplaats van Tilburg.

GRAVE MONUMENT on the Catholic cemetery on the Bredaseweg of the couple Moller-Bourgonjon. H.E.W. Moller (1869-1940) was the emancipator and founder of several important large educational institutions in the South of the Netherlands including the Catholic Lecture Series and Our Secondary Education. He was also a member of the Second Chamber (1925-1940). The grave stone also bears the name of Moller's son who fell on 10 May 1940 in the defence of Valkenburg airfield. The grave monument, constructed in brick, was made around 1940 by contractor's firm J. Dekkers & Zn. The design is most likely by the hand of Moller's brother-in-law, sculptor G.P.D. Bourgonjon, who also created the grave monument for the couple Lodewijk Frans Bourgonjon-Roeland. G.P.D. The border surrounds a sloping sandstone grave stone with the inscription 'Alice E.Th Moller-Bourgonjon / born 28 Sept. 1873 died 16 March 1958 / Mr. Hendrik Willem Evert / Moller / born 8 Nov. 1869 died 6 Dec. 1940 / M... (illegible) Wilh. Willibrordus Maria / Moller / reserve lieutenant 4 R.I. / born 29 March 1911 died 10 May 1940 / When this temporary life ends / the endless life begins / known to God alone / and granted only to the blessed'. At the head end a structure laid in yellow brick, consisting of two columns with terracotta cap plates between which a wall with an inlaid cross. On the front of this two bronze portraits in low relief, depicting H. Moller and his wife with respectively as inscription '1869 8 Nov / 1940 6 Dec / Dr. H.W.E. Moller' and '28 Sept 1873 / 16 March 1958 / A.E.Th. Moller-Bourgonjon'. Both portraits are signed 'G.Bourgonjon'. On the structure, below the portraits, in bronze letters the inscription 'Dr. H.W.E. Moller / 1869 - 1940'. At the foot of the structure a brick planter box. On the right front a signature 'J. Dekkers & Zn / contractors' is placed on a tile. A bronze cross, which judging by the traces above the portraits was attached, has disappeared.

It has cultural-historical value because of the, for the period in which the grave monument was created, exceptional use of materials and the striking execution. The grave monument moreover forms a reference to an important social and spiritual development by means of the persons buried here who were closely involved in the creation of their own Catholic educational institutions in the South of the Netherlands. The object is moreover part of a larger whole that is of cultural-historical, architectural-historical and urban-planning importance as the first Catholic cemetery of Tilburg.
