Inleiding.
De Neogotische GRAFZERK werd in 1888 opgericht voor de familie De Meulemeester-Van Hasselt.
Omschrijving.
Het graf bestaat uit een smeedijzeren omheining, een grafplaat en een hoge stèle met kruis. Het in Neogotische stijl uitgevoerde hekwerk met kruisdecoratie is 2.45 breed en 2.75 lang. Bij de voetplaat is een hardstenen knielbankje met de tekst: "bid voor ons" geplaatst. Tegen het ijzeren hekwerk staan aan de binnenzijde drie achthoekige zinken bakken. Aan de binnenzijde hiervan is bij één ervan te lezen dat het een eerbetoon was van de Katholieke Kiesvereeniging, een ander van de leden van het R.K. Armbestuur. In de laatste een restant van een krans van ijzer en zink. De 3.20 hoge hardstenen opstand heeft een voetstuk met marmeren plaquettes, evenals in de spitsboogvormige uitsparingen onder zadeldak met kruisbloem. Hierboven springt het monument in, met afzaten en wordt bekroond door een kalkstenen kruis met driepassen aan de uiteinden van de armen. The grave consists of a wrought-iron railing, a grave plate and a high stele with cross. The iron railings executed in Neogothic style with cross decoration is 2.45 wide and 2.75 long. At the base plate a hardstone kneeling bench with the text: "pray for us" is placed. Against the iron railings stand on the inside three octagonal zinc boxes. On the inside thereof of one can be read that it was a tribute from the Catholic Electoral Association, another from the members of the R.K. Poor Relief Board. In the last one a remnant of a wreath of iron and zinc. The 3.20 high hardstone superstructure has a pedestal with marble plaques, as well as in the pointed-arched recesses under gabled roof with cross flower. Above this the monument steps back, with setbacks and is crowned by a limestone cross with trefoils at the ends of the arms. The texts read as follows: "De Meulemeester 1843-1888 - Van Hasselt 1858-.... / Here rests the gentleman J. de Meulemeester in his lifetime vicar of the parish O.L.V. van Lourdes 1886-1921". Other names of the deceased are almost illegible.
Assessment.
The grave tomb is of general interest. The object has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of a social and spiritual development, in particular the development of Catholic grave culture; it is also of importance for the typological development of the grave monument.
