Inleiding.
De Neogotische GRAFTOMBE voor de heer Asselbergs en mevrouw Meyvis dateert uit 1880.
Omschrijving.
Het graf bestaat uit een ijzeren omheining met daarin een piëdestal met een kalkstenen heiligenbeeld. Het hek staat op een geprofileerde hardstenen sokkel van 1.80 breed en 3.30 lang. Het gietijzeren hekwerk heeft hoekpilaartjes, krullen en als bekroning zandlopers en kruisjes. De kalkstenen piëdestal is 1.95 hoog met aan de zijden neerhangende toortsen. Op de voorzijde een wit marmeren plaquette met tekst, luidende: "D.O.M. hier verwachten de zalige verrijzenis onze dierbare ouders Arnoldus Asselbergs geb. 19 feb. 1811 overl. 11 feb. 1880 / Anna Catharina Meyvis geb. 27 oct. 1811 overl. 10 feb. 1888, R.I.P. Voorts de signatuur van J.A. van Gonk, Antwerpen. Op het gewelfde voetstuk bij het beeld zijn twee omketende handen verbeeld. Verder zijn er reliëfs van een tandrad, een boek, een passer, een haak, kransen en een olijftak. Tenslotte het beeld van 1.58 centimeter zelf; het is de heilige Theresia met de blik hemelwaarts gericht en een kruis in de hand.
Waardering.
De graftombe is van algemeen belang. Het object heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociale en geestelijke ontwikkeling, in het bijzonder de ontwikkeling van de katholieke grafcultuur, het is tevens van belang voor de typologische ontwikkeling van het grafmonument. The grave consists of an iron railing with therein a pedestal with a limestone saint's statue. The fence stands on a profiled hardstone plinth of 1.80 wide and 3.30 long. The cast-iron railings have corner pilasters, scrollwork and as crowning hourglasses and little crosses. The limestone pedestal is 1.95 high with hanging torches on the sides. On the front a white marble plaque with text, reading: "D.O.M. here await the blessed resurrection our dear parents Arnoldus Asselbergs born 19 Feb. 1811 died 11 Feb. 1880 / Anna Catharina Meyvis born 27 Oct. 1811 died 10 Feb. 1888, R.I.P. Furthermore the signature of J.A. van Gonk, Antwerp. On the vaulted base at the statue are two interlinking hands depicted. Further there are reliefs of a cogwheel, a book, a compass, a hook, wreaths and an olive branch. Finally the statue itself of 1.58 centimetre; it is Saint Theresia with gaze directed heavenward and a cross in the hand.
Assessment.
The grave tomb is of general interest. The object has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of a social and spiritual development, in particular the development of Catholic grave culture; it is also of importance for the typological development of the grave monument.
