Inleiding.
GRAFKAPEL in Neogotische stijl uit 1894, gesitueerd in vak I aan de rand van de middencirkel van de Calvarieheuvel.
Omschrijving.
De hardstenen grafkapel heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond en is 1.85 meter breed, 2.50 lang en 3.20 hoog. In het hardstenen zadeldak met sierkam zijn schubleien uitgehakt. Voor de ingang is van hardsteen een driepasluifel met hogels gemaakt, rustend op een dubbel stel Neogotische zuiltjes met pinakelbekroning. Op de nok staat een bewerkt kruis met vierpas. Het rechter voetstuk is gesigneerd door Victor Patteet uit Antwerpen. De metalen deur is voorzien van een uitgezaagd kruis met stralen en sterren en het Alpha- en Omegateken. In het onderpaneel bevond zich een nu verdwenen gevleugelde zandloper. In het spitsbogige veld boven de deur bevindt zich de aanduiding: "familiegraf" en arabesken. In de zijden bevinden zich twee spitsboogvensters met afzaat en een sierband om de bovenzijde. De oorspronkelijke glas-in-loodvulling is verloren gegaan. De achterzijde van de grafkapel bezit op de hoeken eveneens zuiltjes op drievoudige verjongende voet en pinakels, de nok heeft een hoge tuitafsluiting. In het topgeveldeel bevindt zich een rond glas-in-loodraampje. Dit toont het vlammend omstraalde oog van God in een driehoek. Het interieur bevat een marmeren altaar met uit schellak ingewerkte voorstellingen van engelen met de geestesduif, een doornenkroon en het woord pax. In de zijden van de grafkapel zijn marmeren gedenkstenen aangebracht. De oudste is voor dhr. P.C. La Fontijn, 18 oct. 1894. Zijn echtgenote, mevr. A.J. Bastiaanse, ligt hier sedert 19 dec. 1897 eveneens begraven evenals Jeannette P.C.E. La Fontijn, 19 feb. 1901, en Michel La Fontijn, 27 aug. 1947.

De grafkapel is van algemeen belang. FUNERARY CHAPEL in Neogothic style from 1894, situated in section I at the edge of the central circle of the Calvarieheuvel.
Description.
The hardstone funerary chapel has a rectangular ground plan and is 1.85 metres wide, 2.50 long and 3.20 high. In the hardstone gabled roof with decorative ridge are carved slate shingles. In front of the entrance, a trefoil canopy of hardstone with carved corbels has been made, resting on a double set of Neogothic small columns with pinnacle crowning. On the ridge stands a worked cross with quatrefoil. The right pedestal is signed by Victor Patteet from Antwerp. The metal door is provided with a fretted cross with rays and stars and the Alpha and Omega symbol. In the lower panel was an once winged hourglass now disappeared. In the pointed-arched field above the door is the designation: "family grave" and arabesques. On the sides are two pointed-arched windows with setback and a decorative band around the top. The original leaded glass filling has been lost. The rear of the funerary chapel has at the corners likewise small columns on triple diminishing feet and pinnacles; the ridge has a high spout-shaped finishing. In the top gable part is a round leaded glass window. This shows the flaming surrounded eye of God in a triangle. The interior contains a marble altar with representations of angels with the dove of the Holy Spirit worked in shellac, a crown of thorns and the word pax. On the sides of the funerary chapel are marble memorial stones. The oldest is for Mr. P.C. La Fontijn, 18 Oct. 1894. His wife, Mrs. A.J. Bastiaanse, has been buried here since 19 Dec. 1897, as also Jeannette P.C.E. La Fontijn, 19 Feb. 1901, and Michel La Fontijn, 27 Aug. 1947.
Assessment.
The funerary chapel is of general interest. The object has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of a social and spiritual development, in particular the development of Catholic grave culture; it is also of importance for the typological development of the grave monument. It has art-historical importance as an example of a Neogothic family grave. It has been preserved intact.
