Inleiding
Het SCHIJNDODENHUISJE is gelegen langs de St. Elisabethstraat op de zuidwestelijke hoek van de Algemene Begraafplaats. Het werd in 1858 opgetrokken in een Traditioneel-Ambachtelijke vormentaal. Het gebouwtje, dat fungeerde als ruimte voor het opbaren van doden, wordt nu voor de opslag van begrafenismaterialen gebruikt.
Omschrijving
Het eenlaags gebouwtje heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond en een licht overstekend zadeldak met windveren, gedekt door verbeterde Hollandse pannen. De muren zijn opgetrokken in baksteen. De ingang van het huisje ligt aan de St. Elisabethstraat en wordt gevormd door een dubbele houten deur met rondboogvormig bovenlicht, in een ondiep, verspringend rondboogportaal. Hierboven een lunet en aan weerszijden twee ondiepe rondboognissen met bakstenen afzaat. De rondbogen hebben natuurstenen aanzet- en sluitstukken. Aan de achterzijde van het gebouwtje twee halfronde vensters.
Waardering
Het object is van algemeen belang en bezit cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische ontwikkelingen is tevens een voorbeeld van de ontwikkeling van de dodencultus in de 19de eeuw. Het schijndodenhuisje vormt een essentieel onderdeel van het begraafplaatscomplex en bezit als zodanig ensemblewaarde. Het object is tot slot van belang vanwege gaafheid.

The SCHIJNDODENHUISJE is located along the St. Elisabethstraat on the southwest corner of the Algemene Begraafplaats. It was erected in 1858 in a Traditional-Craftsman formal language. The small building, which served as a space for laying out the dead, is now used for the storage of burial materials.

The single-storey building has a rectangular ground plan and a slightly projecting gabled roof with wind vanes, covered with improved Dutch tiles. The walls are constructed of brick. The entrance to the building is on the St. Elisabethstraat and is formed by a double wooden door with a round-arched fanlight, in a shallow, set-back round-arched portal. Above this a lunette and on either side two shallow round-arched niches with brick springing. The round arches have natural stone springer and keystone pieces.
