Inleiding
Aan de oostzijde van het als Complexonderdeel III beschreven kavel van de Rooms-Katholieke afdeling op de Algemene Begraafplaats, bevindt zich het GRAFMONUMENT van de familie Rouppe van der Voort. De zuil markeert de graven van L.H. Rouppe van der Voort (1803-1878), diens echtgenote A.F.H. Diepen (1804-1866), J. Rouppe van der Voort (1837-1893) en zijn echtgenote A.M.J. van Berckel (1839-1879). Dit uit omstreeks 1866 daterende grafmonument heeft de vorm van een Dorische zuil. De kop van deze zuil is lange tijd afgebroken geweest; recentelijk is het grafmonument echter gerestaureerd, waarbij de zuil een nieuw schachtdeel kreeg.
Omschrijving
Het grafmonument is opgebouwd uit een hoge hardstenen sokkel op vierkante grondslag, met daarboven een zandstenen Dorische zuil. Op de noordelijke zijde van de sokkel is een zichzelf in de staart bijtende slang afgebeeld en de inscriptie R.I.P.. Op de tegenoverliggende zijde een kruis en de inscriptie D.O.M.. Op de schacht van de zuil is een wapenschildje aangebracht, waarin drie kruisen en drie schilden zijn afgebeeld. Dit wapenschildje is vrij sterk verweerd.
Waardering
Het object is van algemeen belang. Het bezit cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een geestelijke ontwikkeling en als herinnering aan de fabrikantenfamilie Rouppe van der Voort. Het bezit kunsthistorische waarde vanwege het bijzondere materiaalgebruik en ornamentiek en vanwege de hoogwaardige esthetische kwaliteiten van het grafmonument. Introduction
On the east side of the plot of the Roman Catholic division on the General Cemetery, as described as Complex Component III, is located the GRAVE MONUMENT of the Rouppe van der Voort family. The column marks the graves of L.H. Rouppe van der Voort (1803-1878), his wife A.F.H. Diepen (1804-1866), J. Rouppe van der Voort (1837-1893) and his wife A.M.J. van Berckel (1839-1879). This grave monument dating from approximately 1866 takes the form of a Doric column. The top of this column had been broken off for a long time; recently, however, the grave monument has been restored, with the column receiving a new shaft section.
Description
The grave monument is constructed from a tall hardstone plinth on square ground plan, above which a sandstone Doric column. On the north side of the plinth a snake biting its own tail is depicted and the inscription R.I.P.. On the opposite side a cross and the inscription D.O.M.. On the shaft of the column a coat of arms cartouche is attached, in which three crosses and three shields are depicted. This coat of arms cartouche is fairly heavily weathered.
Valuation
The object is of general importance. It possesses cultural-historical value as a distinctive expression of a spiritual development and as a reminder of the manufacturer family Rouppe van der Voort. It possesses art-historical value on account of the distinctive use of materials and ornamentation and on account of the high-quality aesthetic qualities of the grave monument.
