Inleiding
Het SCHOOLGEBOUW voor de Katholieke kleuterschool is gelegen langs de oostelijke zijde van de Victorialaan, aan de noord-westelijke zijde van het complex rondom het Mariaplein. Het schoolgebouw, dat in 1939-40 werd opgetrokken naar ontwerp van architect A.J. Kropholler en de Vughtse architecten G. en H. Koesen, toont een traditionalistische vormentaal. Aan de zuidzijde van het schoolgebouw lag oorspronkelijk een speelplein, waarop heden een tuin is aangelegd. Opdrachtgever was de Rooms-Katholieke parochie O.l.v. Maria Middelares aller Genaden. Heden is het schoolgebouw in gebruik als verenigingsgebouw.
Omschrijving
Het schoolgebouw heeft een vrij langgerekte, rechthoekige plattegrond en telt n bouwlaag onder een hoog geknikt zadeldak, gedekt met rode verbeterde Hollandse pannen. Boven de zuidelijke gevel een dakkapel en een drietal dakvensters. Aansluitend op de zuidwestelijke zijde van het schoolgebouw een lagere aanbouw onder plat dak. De gevels van het schoolgebouw zijn opgetrokken in baksteen, met natuurstenen elementen, zoals booggeboorten en deklijsten boven de gevels. De hoofdingang van het schoolgebouw bevindt zich aan de rechterzijde van de kopgevel aan de Victorialaan. De ingang is gelegen in een portaal onder een rondboog met een massieve natuurstenen geboorte. Deze ingang is bereikbaar via een hoge bakstenen trap met natuurstenen treden. Links hiervan een viertal dicht bij elkaar geplaatste vensters met achtruits raam. Ter hoogte van de zolder in deze kopgevel een rond venster, aan de onderzijde voorzien van een natuurstenen element. De oostelijke kopgevel wordt afgedekt door een natuurstenen lijst, bekroond met een kruis. In de zuidelijke gevel, langs de tuin, in het midden van de gevel een rondboogportaal met zijingang. Rechts hiervan een tweetal gekoppelde vensters met zesruits stolpraam en tweeruits bovenlicht. De lokalen van het schoolgebouw zijn in de zuidgevel voorzien van per twee gekoppelde vensters met natuurstenen blokken tussen de strekken. Geheel links in de gevel twee vensterpartijen met drie gekoppelde vensters. De vensters voor de klaslokalen zijn voorzien van zesruits stolpramen met een vierruits bovenlicht. De lokalen zijn voorzien van een afzonderlijke ingang langs de tuin aan de zuidzijde: deze bestaan uit een deur met zesruits raam en vierruits bovenlicht.
De noordelijke gevel heeft aan de linkerzijde vier vensterpartijen met twee gekoppelde vensters, evenals de vensters in de zuidgevel voorzien van zesruits stolpraam met vierruits bovenlicht. Aan de rechterzijde kleinere, per twee en drie gekoppelde vierkante vensters met twee boven elkaar geplaatste tweeruits klapramen. In de westelijke kopgevel, waarvan de topgevel is afgedekt met een natuurstenen lijst, links een achteringang. Rechts hiervan, een gekoppeld venster met zesruits stolpramen en vierruits bovenlicht. Ter hoogte van de zolder een kleiner, vierkant gekoppeld venster.
Aansluitend op de zuidwestelijke hoek van het schoolgebouw een eenlaags aanbouw onder plat dak voor een fietsenstalling met drie grote rondboogopeningen aan de oostelijke zijde. Natuurstenen geboorten onder de bogen. In de zuidgevel van deze aanbouw een gekoppeld venster met vierruits raam en tweeruits klapraam in de bovenlichten.
Waardering
Het schoolgebouw voor de R.K. kleuterschool is van algemeen belang. Het schoolgebouw bezit cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische en geestelijke ontwikkeling. Het illustreert de wijze waarop de Rooms-Katholieke kerk in de periode tussen de twee wereldoorlogen in de samenleving integreerde. The facades of the school building are constructed of brick, with natural stone elements, such as arched voussoirs and drip mouldings above the facades. The main entrance to the school building is located on the right side of the end gable facing the Victorialaan. The entrance is located in a portal under a round arch with a massive natural stone voussoir. This entrance is accessible via a high brick staircase with natural stone steps.
