Inleiding
Achter het klooster en bejaardentehuis "Marienhof" ligt een BEGRAAFPLAATS voor de parochie, welke is aangelegd onder architectuur van A.J. Kropholler tussen 1933 en 1938. De begraaplaats sluit aan op de tuinaanleg naar ontwerp van de Bossche tuinarchitect Buis.
Omschrijving
De begraafplaats heeft een geknikt rechthoekige plattegrond, is beplant met haagbeuken en wordt omgeven door een taxushaag. Het terrein is toegankelijk door een poort met ijzeren hekken tussen pijlers van groot formaat baksteen. De pijlers worden bekroond door twee beelden van adelaars, gesigneerd H. Jonkers, 's-Bosch 1938. In de as van de begraafplaats ligt achter het hek een tweetal stichtersgraven, tombes in hardsteen van J.F.M. Eras en de bouwpastoor der kerk H. Eras. Hierachter bevindt zich een fors in baksteen opgetrokken kruis met hardstenen lijsten en een terracotta plaquette, herinnerend aan de stichting in 1933 door H. Eras. Links en rechts treffen we in rijen en blokken twee consequent doorgevoerde graftypen aan, beide naar basisontwerp van Kropholler. Het betreft tombegraven uit ruw behakte hardsteen met opschriften aan de buitenzijde tegen de hagen en dubbele rijen van kleinere staande kruisen in hardsteen met steeds wisselende monogrammen. Links van de hoofdas ligt tegen de haag een rechthoekig, uit groot formaat baksteen opgetrokken baarhuisje. Het heeft een zadeldak met leien in Maasdekking, spitsboogramen en een rondboogingang.
Waardering
De begraafplaats is van algemeen belang en bezit cultuurhistorische waarde als uitdrukking van sociaal-economische en geestelijke ontwikkelingen, met name de stichting van parochiecentra in het Interbellum en de wijze waarop de katholieke grafcultuur gestalte heeft gekregen. Het geheel is van architectuurhistorisch belang vanwege de traditionalistische bouwstijl en de plattegrondvorm en detaillering en de plaats van de aanleg binnen het oeuvre van de architect A.J.
