Omschrijving
Inleiding.
Zaaijer ontworpen buitenplaats in Nieuw Historiserende stijl. Opdrachtgever was dhr. D.T. Ruys.

Description
Introduction.
The GARDEN and TERRACE LAYOUT with BRIDGES (5) belonging to the country estate and in the New Architectural Garden Style was created around 1914-1916 as part of a country estate designed by architect L.J. Zaaijer in New Historicising Style. The client was Mr. D.T. Ruys.
N.B.: The greenhouse that closed off the garden on the northwest side has disappeared, as has the drawbridge in Old Dutch Style, which formed a connection with the Paauw on the northwest side. The geometric garden layout to the south and northwest of the house has been greatly simplified.
Description.
The garden layout comprises a large terraced section in front of the house, which with the exception of the northwest side is surrounded by ditches and a smaller garden to the northwest of the house, which is surrounded by water on two sides (south and northwest). In front of the house lies a terrace clad with natural stone slabs, which is widened at the height of the bay window. On the natural stone-covered small walls stand natural stone garden vases.
The terrace has a masoned parapet executed with fretwork, rhythmically articulated by pillars crowned with natural stone ball ornaments. In the extension of the centre axis of the front facade of the house are stairs at various levels and a bridge with double basket arch vaulting. This ends on the garden side with a staircase consisting of circular segments, flanked by heavy pilasters. Against the northwest terrace wall a staircase with circular segment and intermediate landing has been built, leading down to the water. The terrace runs along the northwest side in front of the facades with stairs and ball ornaments and ornamental vases on the garden wall in front of the bay window and towards the garden. The large garden contains mostly lawn with a few small borders, some of which have boxwood edging. Centrally in the middle stands a flagpole. The smaller garden to the northwest of the house is connected via a simple wooden bridge to the country estate the Paauw on the northwest side. Along the drive, which leads to the oval turning circle, stand various iron lamp posts dating from the building period of the house. Near the garage is a round masoned well. On the north and east sides the garden has, as a transition to the country estate De Paauw, a landscape layout with several winding paths and planting consisting mainly of deciduous trees such as oaks and beeches, including some copper beeches.
Valuation.
The garden and terrace layout with bridge from 1914-1916 is of general importance due to its cultural and garden-historical value as an example of a garden layout that was created in conjunction with the country estate around 1914-1916 in the New Architectural Garden Style.
In particular the terrace layout, but in its main form also the garden layout and some bridges, has been well preserved. Otherwise the original structure is clearly recognizable.
The garden and terrace layout with bridges of the country estate has great ensemble value through the visual and historico-spatial coherence with the other complex components and in particular with the centrally located country house.
