Inleiding
Op het voorplein van het instituut bevindt zich centraal voor de ingang op een hoge sokkel het in 1915 door de Bossche beeldhouwer M. van Bokhoven vervaardigde BEELD van de stichter van het instituut, Martinus van Beek. Het werd vervaardigd in een enigszins geïdealiseerde realistische stijl. Het beeld werd ter gelegenheid van het 75-jarig jubileum van het instituut in Sint-Michielsgestel aangeboden door oud-leerlingen.
Omschrijving
Het beeld bevindt zich centraal op een rechthoekig plateau van grinttegels dat wordt omgrensd door acht toelopende paaltjes van Beiers graniet die onderling door smeedijzeren kettingen met elkaar verbonden zijn. De circa drie meter hoge sokkel van het beeld bestaat uit verschillende, zich verjongende, delen van Beiers graniet. Hierop zijn een gedenkplaquette van de aanbieding en een wapensteen met ronde top aangebracht. De wapens zijn vermoedelijk die van de bisdommen van Breda en 's-Hertogenbosch of van de broeders en zusters van het instituut. Het vooral voor een frontaal aanzicht bedoelde beeld is vervaardigd van Franse kalksteen en is meer dan levensgroot. Het toont een staande Martinus van Beek in priestergewaad en koorkap met aan zijn rechterzijde een kind met kniebroek, kousen en jasje. Van Beek houdt in zijn linkerhand een opengeslagen boek met als inschrift "ONZE VADER". Beide figuren communiceren door middel van handgebaren met elkaar. Achter het kind wordt het beeld compositorisch en constructief ondersteund door een stapel uitgehouwen boeken.
Waardering
Het beeld is van algemeen belang. Het beeld heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van de ontwikkeling van de door voornamelijk door religieuzen geleide gezondheidszorg in het zuiden van Nederland rond 1900. Het beeld heeft kunsthistorische waarde vanwege de hoogwaardige kwaliteit en vanwege de plaats die het inneemt in het werk van de Bossche beeldhouwer M. van Bokhoven.
Het beeld heeft ensemblewaarden vanwege de samenhang met de instituutsbebouwing. Het beeld is gaaf bewaard gebleven.

Introduction
On the forecourt of the institute, centrally in front of the entrance on a high base, is the STATUE created in 1915 by the Den Bosch sculptor M. van Bokhoven of the founder of the institute, Martinus van Beek. It was created in a somewhat idealized realistic style. The statue was presented on the occasion of the 75th anniversary celebration of the institute in Sint-Michielsgestel by former students.
Description
The statue is located centrally on a rectangular platform of gravel tiles which is bounded by eight tapering bollards of Bavarian granite which are interconnected by wrought-iron chains. The approximately three-metre-high base of the statue consists of different, tapering sections of Bavarian granite. A commemorative plaque of the presentation and a coat-of-arms stone with rounded top are mounted on it. The arms are presumably those of the dioceses of Breda and 's-Hertogenbosch or of the brothers and sisters of the institute. The statue, created mainly for a frontal view, is made of French limestone and is more than life-size. It shows a standing Martinus van Beek in priestly vestments and choir cap with a child at his right side wearing knee breeches, stockings and jacket. Van Beek holds an open book in his left hand with the inscription "ONZE VADER" (OUR FATHER). Both figures communicate with each other through hand gestures. Behind the child the statue is compositionally and structurally supported by a stack of carved books.
Valuation
The statue is of general importance. The statue has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of the development of healthcare led primarily by religious personnel in the south of the Netherlands around 1900. The statue has art-historical value because of its high quality and because of the place it holds in the work of the Den Bosch sculptor M. van Bokhoven.
The statue has ensemble values because of its coherence with the institute buildings. The statue has been preserved intact.
