Inleiding
Het terrein van het klooster bestaat uit gronden met een divers gebruik, direct gerelateerd aan de geschiedenis en het gebruik van het klooster. De tuin is tijdens de bouw van het klooster aangelegd naar plannen van architect Paul Bellot. Het noordwestelijk van het klooster gelegen terrein werd ommuurd. Daarbinnen werd een rechthoekig lanenstelsel aangelegd, dat een akkerbouwveld omgaf. Hier werd gewandeld in carré-opstelling. Centraal in het veld werd de begraafplaats gesitueerd. Ten westen hiervan werd - binnen de ommuring - een bos aangelegd met slingerpaden. Dit vormt een kering tegen de wind, belemmert wederzijdse inkijk met de naastgelegen Onze-Lieve-Vrouwe abdij en bood gelegenheid voor solitaire wandelingen. Ommuurde tuin, bestaande uit een van oorsprong open, rechthoekig terrein omgeven door lanen met centraal de begraafplaats. Ten westen hiervan, maar binnen de ommuring, een bos met slingerpaden. De zuidelijke langs het open veld met kerkhof is in zuidoostelijke richting doorgezet. Deze as vormt de centrale ontsluiting van de kloostertuin naar de landbouwgronden. Halverwege wordt deze as gekruist door de centrale laan die de hoofdaansluiting met de Hoogstraat vormt. Rond dit kruispunt bevinden zich (moes-)tuinen en boomgaarden.
