Inleiding
Op de Isralitische begraafplaats van de I.B.V.A.-Frechie-stichting bevindt zich, in het verlengde van de linden-allee, die het kerkhof van noord naar zuid doorsnijdt, het GRAFMONUMENT van de familie Horowitz. Het monument in Overgangsstijl, met Oosterse motieven werd omstreeks 1910 opgericht.
Omschrijving
Het in hardsteen uitgevoerde familiegraf heeft een globaal rechthoekige plattegrond met risalerend en hoger opgetrokken middendeel, waarin, aan de zuidelijke zijde, de toegang tot het interieur van het monument. Deze doorgang heeft, evenals de gekoppelde vensteropeningen in de westelijke en oostelijke zijgevels, een hoefijzerboog, en wordt geflankeerd door rechthoekige vensteropeningen. In de zijgevels van de aanbouwen worden de vensteropeningen gescheiden door gekapiteelde halfzuilen.
Het middendeel heeft, evenals de flankerende aanbouwen, een getrapt gekanteelde kroonlijst, maar heeft in tegenstelling tot de aanbouwen geen dak. Het platdak van de aanbouwen wordt rusten in het interieur op betonnen balken.
In de zuidelijke gevel zijn aan weerszijden van de deur in een laagrelif de resp. inscripties: "famille Horowitz-Landy" en "famille Horowitz-Berensohn" aangebracht. In de achterwand van het monument bevinden zich aan de zuidelijke zijde achtereenvolgens de inscripties: "Fanny Horowitz / ne Landy / 1860-1910", "Hier rust / Michel David Horowitz / overl. in den ouderdom van 65 jaar / te Brussel / 3 Dec. 1949 - 12 Kislew 5710", en "Elise Horowitz / Epouse / Michel David Horowitz ne Berensohn / 1884-1910".
Waardering
Het GRAFMONUMENT is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociale en geestelijke ontwikkeling, namelijk de ontwikkeling van de joodse grafcultuur, het is tevens van belang voor de typologische ontwikkeling van het grafmonument. Het heeft architectuurhistorisch belang door de verzorgde detaillering en de zeldzame stijlvormen. At the Israelite cemetery of the I.B.V.A.-Frechie foundation, in the extension of the linden avenue, which cuts through the churchyard from north to south, is the GRAVE MONUMENT of the Horowitz family. The monument in Transitional style, with Oriental motifs, was erected around 1910.
Description
The family grave, executed in stone, has a roughly rectangular plan with projecting and higher constructed central section, in which, on the southern side, is the access to the interior of the monument. This passage has, like the coupled window openings in the western and eastern side gables, a horseshoe arch, and is flanked by rectangular window openings. In the side gables of the extensions, the window openings are separated by capitalled half-columns.
The central section, like the flanking extensions, has a stepped battlemented cornice, but unlike the extensions has no roof. The flat roof of the extensions rests in the interior on concrete beams.
In the southern gable, on either side of the door, the inscriptions: "famille Horowitz-Landy" and "famille Horowitz-Berensohn" are mounted in low relief respectively. In the back wall of the monument are located on the southern side successively the inscriptions: "Fanny Horowitz / ne Landy / 1860-1910", "Here rests / Michel David Horowitz / died at the age of 65 / in Brussels / 3 Dec. 1949 - 12 Kislew 5710", and "Elise Horowitz / Spouse / Michel David Horowitz ne Berensohn / 1884-1910".
