Former DISTILLERY built in the third quarter of the nineteenth century in austere Eclectic style. The distillery forms part of the extensive distillery complex of the firm Dirkzwager at the Noordvest/Groenweegje, which developed here from the middle of the nineteenth century onwards. From the beginning of this century, it is notable that the firm carried out its extensions in a historicizing manner, thereby alluding to the flourishing period of the Schiedam distillery industry.

The distillery is typologically representative of the housing of this specific production phase within the spirits industry in the last major flourishing period (1850-1880) of the (small-scale) Schiedam distillery industry. Characteristic is the asymmetrical facade layout, which results from the positioning on the ground floor of the (wider) settling pans on one side of the distillery and the kettle apparatus on the other side. Description

The former distillery is built on a rectangular floor plan with two storeys and an attic storey under a gabled roof oriented at right angles to the street and covered with tiles. The front facade is built in red brick; the side and rear facades in yellow IJsselsteen, laid in running bond. The front facade is crowned with a shortened main cornice. The front facade is four window bays wide and contains on the ground floor, to the left of centre, a wide door with a round arch fanlight, provided with the characteristic spiderweb window. To the left of the door, a single light arched window with casement sashes with six panes each, and to the right two similar windows. The windows are provided with one-and-a-half-brick-thick running headers, sandstone drip moulds and thumbstones. On the floor above is positioned at the far left the lightly arched entrance door to the first-floor storage and to the right two six-pane windows on either side of a more recent warehouse door. (The latter replaces an identical window.) The windows are provided with running headers and sandstone drip moulds. In the attic storey facade there were originally two windows corresponding to those on the floor above, of which the right one has been replaced by a warehouse door with a hoist beam above it.

In the eastern side facade to the right three lightly arched windows and to the left two door openings. At the height of the floor levels simple ornamental wall anchors are applied with straight shoots. The wooden box gutters are supported by corbelled consoles.

The interior is in reasonably authentic condition; the wooden construction is still clearly visible: a beam layer supported by two queen posts, with key blocks at the point where the main beams end in the walls. A wooden staircase against the side wall leads to the two floors which serve as storage. The wooden roof truss structure has been renewed and consists of six arch trusses connected to each other and to the roof boards by two purlins.
