Inleiding
De bij de historische buitenplaats Raaphorst behorende DIENSTWONING uit ca. 1838-1845 in Eclectische stijl is ontworpen in de periode dat Zocher jr. in dienst van Z.K.H. prins Frederik werkzaam was op zijn landgoederen De Horsten en de Paauw. De dienstwoning ligt op de voormalige buitenplaats Raaphorst langs de Umfahrungsweg, nabij een open ruimte aan één van de assen van het voormalige kasteel.
Omschrijving
Vrijstaande éénlaagse, symmetrisch opgezette, deels onderkelderde bouwmassa heeft een plattegrond op basis van een latijns kruis. De haaks op elkaar aansluitende zadeldaken met breed overstek zijn gedekt met geglazuurde, gesmoorde Hollandse pannen en hebben zinken nok- en hoekkepers. Op de nok bevindt zich een uit grauwe baksteen opgetrokken schoorsteen. De windveren zijn van hout. De gevels zijn zandsteenkleurig gepleisterd, voorzien van geblokte hoeklisenen, die een over alle gevels doorlopende cordonlijst dragen. De plint is zwart geschilderd. De vensters op de begane grond zijn overwegend zesruits schuiframen, deels voorzien van binnenluiken. Het iets vooruitspringende middendeel van de voorgevel (zuidoost) is een puntgevel, voorzien van een paneeldeur met tweeruits bovenlicht, toegankelijk via twee stoeptreden. Op de verdieping bevindt zich een rond tuimelraam. In de terugliggende flankerende langsgevels bevindt zich elk één venster. De beide symmetrisch ingedeelde kopgevels (noordoost/zuidwest) hebben op de begane grond twee vensters. Het engelenraam op de verdieping bestaat uit een, door smalle ramen geflankeerd, vierruits klapraam, met daarboven een rondboogvormig bovenlicht, voorzien van straalsgewijze roedenverdeling. De achtergevel (noordwest) heeft rechts (west) van de lange dwarsvleugel een kelderluik met diefijzers. Van de beide langsgevels van de dwarsvleugel is de zuidwestelijke blind en de noordoostelijke heeft een paneeldeur met tweeruits bovenlicht en één venster. De kopgevel (noordwest) heeft links in de gevel een keldervenster met luik. Op de verdieping bevindt zich een rondboogvenster met houten geprofileerde omlijsting en een zesruits raam. In het interieur is de oorspronkelijke indeling in hoofdlijnen gehandhaafd.
Waardering
De bij de historische buitenplaats Raaphorst behorende DIENSTWONING is van algemeen belang vanwege de architectuurhistorische-, cultuurhistorische- en ensemblewaarde:
- als goed voorbeeld van dienstwoning uit het midden van de 19de eeuw in Eclectische stijl;
- als onderdeel van de historische buitenplaats De Horsten in het algemeen en Raaphorst in het bijzonder;

The SERVICE DWELLING belonging to the historic country estate Raaphorst, dating from circa 1838-1845, in Eclectic style, was designed in the period when Zocher Jr. was employed in the service of H.R.H. Prince Frederik on his estates De Horsten and De Paauw. The service dwelling is located on the former country estate Raaphorst along the Umfahrungsweg, near an open space on one of the axes of the former castle.
Description
Freestanding single-storey, symmetrically arranged, partly cellared building mass has a ground plan based on a Latin cross. The gabled roofs at right angles to each other with broad overhang are covered with glazed, smoked Dutch tiles and have zinc ridge and corner flashings. On the ridge is a chimney constructed from grey brickwork. The wind vanes are of wood. The facades are rendered in a sandstone colour, provided with rusticated corner pilasters, which carry a cordon line running across all facades. The plinth is painted black. The windows on the ground floor are predominantly six-light sash windows, partly provided with internal shutters. The slightly projecting middle section of the front facade (south-east) is a gabled roof, provided with a panelled door with two-light fanlight, accessible via two door steps. On the upper floor there is a round pivoting window. In the recessed flanking long facades there is each one window. Both symmetrically arranged gable walls (north-east/south-west) have two windows on the ground floor. The arched window on the upper floor consists of a, flanked by narrow windows, four-light casement window, with above it a round-arched fanlight, provided with radiating glazing bars. The rear facade (north-west) has to the right (west) of the long transverse wing a cellar hatch with anti-theft bars. Of the two long facades of the transverse wing, the south-west one is blank and the north-east one has a panelled door with two-light fanlight and one window. The gable wall (north-west) has on the left in the facade a cellar window with shutter. On the upper floor there is a round-arched window with wooden moulded surround and a six-light window. In the interior, the original layout is maintained in broad outline.

The SERVICE DWELLING belonging to the historic country estate Raaphorst is of general importance because of its architectural-historical, cultural-historical and ensemble value:
- as a good example of a service dwelling from the middle of the 19th century in Eclectic style;
- as part of the historic country estate De Horsten in general and Raaphorst in particular;
- through the integrity in principal form, material use and detailing, in particular of the exterior;
