Inleiding
GRAFMONUMENT en familiegraf voor de familie van J.C. Meuwese (1816-1894) en diens echtgenote M.E. Moonen (1823-1886). Het graf is in 1886 in Eclectische vormen opgetrokken, naar alle waarschijnlijkheid door J. Bolsius en is gelegen aan de westelijke zijde van de bisschopskapel in sectie 21.
Omschrijving
Het hardstenen grafmonument bestaat uit twee delen: een rechthoekige grafplaat met de inscriptie "grafkelder" en een daarnaast gelegen tombe met aan het hoofdeinde een opbouw met kruisbekroning. Het graf wordt omgeven door hardstenen voetplaten met vier hoge paaltjes op de hoeken en vier lage paaltjes daartussenin. Alle paaltjes zijn met elkaar verbonden door ijzeren schakelkettingen. De tombe is afgeschuind en heeft gecanneleerde consoles waarop de van inscripties voorziene grafplaat rust. Aan het hoofdeinde van de grafplaat is de opbouw geplaatst bestaande uit een sokkel met kruisbekroning. De sokkel zwenkt iets in en heeft aan de voorzijde een witmarmeren plaat met als inscriptie "Wees gegroet o kruis mijn enige hoop". Het geornamenteerde kruis is voorzien van driepassen aan de uiteinden.
Waardering
Het grafmonument is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociale en geestelijke ontwikkeling, in het bijzonder de ontwikkeling van de katholieke grafcultuur, het is tevens van belang als illustratie van de typologsiche ontwikkeling van het grafmonument. Het graf heeft kunsthistorisch belang vanwege de hoge kwaliteit van de toegepaste eclectische ornamentiek. Het graf heeft ensemblewaarden als onderdeel van een groter geheel met cultuurhistorische, architectuurhistorische en typologische samenhang. Het is gaaf bewaard gebleven en typologisch zeldzaam.

GRAVE MONUMENT and family grave for the family of J.C. Meuwese (1816-1894) and his wife M.E. Moonen (1823-1886). The grave was constructed in 1886 in Eclectic forms, in all probability by J. Bolsius and is situated on the western side of the bishop's chapel in section 21.
Description
The sandstone grave monument consists of two parts: a rectangular grave slab with the inscription "grave vault" and an adjoining tomb with a superstructure crowned by a cross at the head end. The grave is surrounded by sandstone base plates with four tall bollards at the corners and four short bollards in between. All bollards are connected to each other by iron chain links. The tomb is bevelled and has fluted consoles on which the grave slab with inscriptions rests. At the head end of the grave slab the superstructure is placed consisting of a plinth with cross crowning. The plinth curves slightly inward and has on the front a white marble plaque with the inscription "Hail O cross my only hope". The ornamented cross is provided with trefoils at the ends.
Valuation
The grave monument is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of a social and spiritual development, in particular the development of Catholic burial culture, and it is moreover of importance as an illustration of the typological development of the grave monument. The grave has art-historical importance because of the high quality of the applied eclectic ornamentation. The grave has ensemble values as part of a larger whole with cultural-historical, architectural-historical and typological coherence. It has remained well preserved and is typologically rare.
