Inleiding.
GRAFMONUMENT voor Dorothea A.J.M. van Beugen (1845-1929) en haar ouders, omstreeks 1888 in Eclectische vormen vervaardigd door I. Schonemaker. Dorothea leefde als lid van de franciscaner lekenorde en kocht, als kind van schatrijke ouders, een terrein in de Bossche wijk Het Zand aan en liet daarop het kapucijnenklooster bouwen. Het sobere graf is gelegen op de eerste rij aan de rechterzijde van de bisschopskapel in sectie 21-13-01-06.
Omschrijving.
Het graf bestaat uit een liggende hardstenen grafplaat met daarop een stèle met kruisbekroning. Het geheel is omgeven door een hardstenen omlijsting met sober geornamenteerde hoekpaaltjes. De kettingen die de paaltjes verbonden zijn verdwenen. De grafplaat heeft twee in reliëf aangebrachte wapenschilden waaronder de namen der overledenen zijn uitgehakt. Aan de voorzijde van de hardstenen stèle is een marmeren plaat met grafschrift voor Dorothea aangebracht. De zijkanten zijn geornamenteerd met onder meer een brandend hart, een kruis en een anker. De stèle wordt bekroond door een kalkstenen kruis met bladornamentiek aan de voet en de uiteinden. De signatuur bevindt zich rechtsonder op de grafplaat.
Waardering.
Het grafmonument is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociale en geestelijke ontwikkeling waarbij de gegoede burgerij een belangrijke rol speelt in de explosieve groei van de kloosterorden in Brabant. Verder is het graf van belang als illustratie van de typologische ontwikkeling van het grafmonument. Het graf heeft ensemblewaarden als onderdeel van een groter geheel met cultuurhistorische, architectuurhistorische en typologische samenhang. Het is gaaf bewaard gebleven en typologisch zeldzaam.

GRAVE MONUMENT for Dorothea A.J.M. van Beugen (1845-1929) and her parents, manufactured around 1888 in Eclectic forms by I. Schonemaker. Dorothea lived as a member of the Franciscan lay order and, as the child of wealthy parents, purchased land in the Den Bosch neighbourhood of Het Zand and had the Capuchin monastery built there. The modest grave is situated in the first row on the right-hand side of the bishop's chapel in section 21-13-01-06.
Description.
The grave consists of a recumbent stone grave slab with a stele crowned with a cross above it. The whole is surrounded by a stone surround with soberly ornamented corner posts. The chains connecting the posts have disappeared. The grave slab has two coats of arms applied in relief, below which the names of the deceased are carved. On the front of the stone stele is a marble plate with an epitaph for Dorothea. The sides are ornamented with, among other things, a burning heart, a cross and an anchor. The stele is crowned by a limestone cross with foliate ornamentation at the base and ends. The signature is located in the lower right on the grave slab.
Valuation.
The grave monument is of general interest. It has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of a social and spiritual development in which the affluent citizenry played an important role in the explosive growth of monastic orders in Brabant. Furthermore, the grave is important as an illustration of the typological development of the grave monument. The grave has ensemble values as part of a larger whole with cultural-historical, architectural-historical and typological coherence. It has been preserved in good condition and is typologically rare.
