Inleiding.
GRAFMONUMENT voor Keesje Daniëls (24 juni 1903 - 3 januari 1906), vervaardigd door de Haarlemse beeldhouwer Louis J. Vreugde in romantisch/realistische vormen. Het bevindt zich ten westen van de bisschopskapel in sectie 21-21-02-42.
Omschrijving.
Grafmonument bestaande uit een rechthoekig hardstenen basement waarop een sokkel met beeld van rode zandsteen van circa 1.50 m hoogte is geplaatst. Het beeld stelt een op een wolk staande, ten hemel stijgende engel met slapend kind in de armen voor. Het kind heeft zijn armen om de nek van de engel geslagen. De engel heeft een ster op het voorhoofd. De signatuur bevindt zich onderaan de linkerzijde van de sokkel.
Waardering. Het grafmonument is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociale en geestelijke ontwikkeling, in het bijzonder de ontwikkeling van de katholieke grafcultuur, het is tevens van belang als illustratie van de typologische ontwikkeling van het kindergrafmonument. Het graf heeft kunsthistorisch belang vanwege de kwaliteit van de sculptuur en vanwege de plaats die het beeld inneemt binnen het oeuvre van L.J. Vreugde. Grave monument consisting of a rectangular hard stone basement on which a socle with a sculpture in red sandstone of approximately 1.50 m in height is placed. The sculpture depicts an angel standing on a cloud, ascending to heaven, with a sleeping child in her arms. The child has his arms around the angel's neck. The angel has a star on her forehead. The signature is located at the bottom on the left side of the socle.
Valuation. The grave monument is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of a social and spiritual development, in particular the development of Catholic grave culture, and it is also of importance as an illustration of the typological development of the children's grave monument. The grave has art-historical importance because of the quality of the sculpture and because of the place the sculpture holds within the oeuvre of L.J. Vreugde. The grave has ensemble values as part of a larger whole with cultural-historical, architectural-historical and typological coherence.
