Inleiding.
GRAFMONUMENT, in 1893 in Neo-Gotische vormen opgericht voor de familie Van der Does de Willebois naar aanleiding van de voortijdige dood van Jonkheer J.L.J. van der Does de Willebois (1883-1893). Ook diens ouders, mw. M.H.E. van der Does de Willebois (1857-1910) en Jonkheer P.J.J.S.M. van der Does de Willebois (1843-1937) zijn in de onderliggende grafkelder bijgezet. Het monument is rijkelijk geornamenteerd; onder meer met een grote bronzen engel. Het bevindt zich op een prominente plaats aan de linkerzijde van de bisschopskapel in sectie 21-11-01-05. De maker en/of het atelier zijn niet bekend.
Omschrijving.
Het monument bestaat uit een op een lage, getrapte opbouw liggende grafplaat met inscripties met aan het hoofdeinde een forse, hoge en rechthoekige stèle. Het geheel wordt omgeven door een lage hardstenen afscheiding met zes octogonale paaltjes die onderling verbonden zijn door ijzeren trekstangen met neogotisch sierornament in de hoeken.
De schuin aflopende grafplaat heeft bewerkte bronzen hoekschroeven. De met hardstenen platen beklede stèle heeft een gerusticeerd basement. Hierboven bevindt zich een aan drie zijden geornamenteerde zone met kleine hoekzuiltjes. Aan de voorzijde zijn in reliëf twee wapenschilden, geflankeerd door leeuwen en met een kroon daarboven aangebracht. In de nissen aan de zijkanten zijn in reliëf lauwerkransen met palmtakken erdoorheen aangebracht. Het gedeelte hierboven is een kapelachtige opbouw met vier wimbergen en neogotische detaillering met onder meer maaswerk, hogels, kruisbloemen en halfzuilen met bladkapitelen op de hoeken. Aan de voorzijde van de kapelachtige opbouw van de stèle bevindt zich op een door een halfzuiltje gedragen sokkel een bronzen sculptuur van een voor een gotisch kruis staande, treurende engel. De engel heeft een lauwerkrans met bloem in de handen. De vleugels zijn omhoog gericht. Het kruis dat aan elk uiteinde een driepas heeft is rijk geornamenteerd met wijnranken en druiventrossen. Achter het kruis is een stralenkrans aangebracht.
Waardering.
Het grafmonument is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociale en geestelijke ontwikkeling, in het bijzonder de ontwikkeling van de katholieke grafcultuur, het is tevens van belang als illustratie van de typologische ontwikkeling van het grafmonument. Het graf met bijbehorende sculptuur heeft kunsthistorisch belang vanwege de hoge kwaliteit van de toegepaste neogotische vormgeving. Het graf heeft ensemblewaarden als onderdeel van een groter geheel met cultuurhistorische, architectuurhistorische en typologische samenhang. Het is gaaf bewaard gebleven en typologisch zeldzaam.

GRAVE MONUMENT, erected in 1893 in Neo-Gothic forms for the Van der Does de Willebois family following the premature death of Jonkheer J.L.J. van der Does de Willebois (1883-1893). His parents, Mrs. M.H.E. van der Does de Willebois (1857-1910) and Jonkheer P.J.J.S.M. van der Does de Willebois (1843-1937) are also buried in the underlying grave vault. The monument is richly ornamented; among other things with a large bronze angel. It is situated in a prominent location on the left side of the bishop's chapel in section 21-11-01-05. The maker and/or studio are not known.
Description.
The monument consists of a grave plate with inscriptions lying on a low, stepped base with a stele at the head end that is large, tall and rectangular. The whole is surrounded by a low hardstone enclosure with six octagonal bollards connected to each other by iron tie rods with Neo-Gothic ornamental detail at the corners.
The sloping grave plate has worked bronze corner screws. The stele, cladded with hardstone plates, has a rusticated basement. Above this is an ornamented zone on three sides with small corner columns. On the front two heraldic shields are applied in relief, flanked by lions and with a crown above. In the niches on the sides laurel wreaths with palm branches running through them are applied in relief. The section above is a chapel-like structure with four gables and Neo-Gothic detailing including tracery, crockets, fleurons and half-columns with leaf capitals at the corners. On the front of the chapel-like structure of the stele there is, on a base carried by a half-column, a bronze sculpture of a mourning angel standing in front of a Gothic cross. The angel holds a laurel wreath with flower in her hands. The wings are directed upward. The cross, which has a trefoil at each end, is richly ornamented with grape vines and grape clusters. Behind the cross a radiant halo is applied.
Valuation.
The grave monument is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of social and spiritual development, in particular the development of Catholic grave culture, and is also of importance as an illustration of the typological development of the grave monument. The grave with its associated sculpture has artistic-historical importance because of the high quality of the applied Neo-Gothic design. The grave has ensemble values as part of a larger whole with cultural-historical, architectural-historical and typological coherence. It has been preserved intact and is typologically rare.
