Omschrijving
Inleiding.
GRAFMONUMENT, familiegraf met grafkelder voor J.W.R. van Gulick (1838-1900), diens vrouw H.J.M. Luijckx (1831-1913), twee broers van Van Gulick en de echtgenote van één van hen. Het obelisk-vormige monument werd in 1900 vervaardigd door H.C. Dobbe en Van Pelt. Het bevindt zich aan de oostelijke zijde van de bisschopskapel in sectie 21-11-01-12.
Omschrijving.
Grafmonument op vierkante grondslag omgeven door rechthoekige hardstenen voetplaat en met van uitspringende banden voorziene hardstenen hoekpaaltjes. Oorspronkelijk werden deze paaltjes verbonden door, inmiddels verdwenen, omheiningskettingen. De bronzen ogen om de kettingen in te bevestigen zijn nog wel aanwezig. Het grafmonument heeft een zich verjongend basement met daarboven aan drie zijdes in reliëf aangebrachte plaquettes met inscripties. Boven de frontale plaquette is in reliëf het familiewapens met helm aan de bovenzijde aangebracht. Dit wordt afgesloten door een rondboog. Hierboven verheft zich de eigenlijke obelisk die naar boven een kleine entasis heeft. Aan de voorzijde is de obelisk voorzien van een in reliëf aangebracht kruis, omgeven door palm- en olijftakken. De signatuur is rechtsonder op de voetplaat aangebracht.
Waardering.
Het grafmonument is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociale en geestelijke ontwikkeling, in het bijzonder de ontwikkeling van de katholieke grafcultuur, het is tevens van belang als illustratie van de typologische ontwikkeling van het grafmonument. Het graf is van belang vanwege de plaats die de sculptuur inneemt binnen het oeuvre van de Bossche architect/beeldhouwers H.C. Dobbe en Van Pelt.
Het graf heeft kunsthistorisch belang vanwege de toegepaste eclectische vormgeving. Het graf heeft ensemblewaarden als onderdeel van een groter geheel met cultuurhistorische, architectuurhistorische en typologische samenhang. Het is gaaf bewaard gebleven en typologisch zeldzaam.

GRAVE MONUMENT, family grave with grave vault for J.W.R. van Gulick (1838-1900), his wife H.J.M. Luijckx (1831-1913), two brothers of Van Gulick and the wife of one of them. The obelisk-shaped monument was created in 1900 by H.C. Dobbe and Van Pelt. It is situated on the eastern side of the bishop's chapel in section 21-11-01-12.
Description.
Grave monument on a square base surrounded by a rectangular hardstone base plate and with hardstone corner bollards provided with projecting bands. Originally these bollards were connected by enclosure chains, now disappeared. The bronze eyes for securing the chains are still present. The grave monument has a tapering basement with plaques bearing inscriptions applied in relief on three sides above it. Above the frontal plaque the family coat of arms with helmet at the top is applied in relief. This is closed off by a round arch. Above this rises the actual obelisk which has a slight entasis towards the top. On the front the obelisk is provided with a cross applied in relief, surrounded by palm and olive branches. The signature is placed at the lower right on the base plate.
Valuation.
The grave monument is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of social and spiritual development, in particular the development of Catholic grave culture, and is also of importance as an illustration of the typological development of the grave monument. The grave is of significance because of the place that the sculpture occupies within the oeuvre of the 's-Hertogenbosch architect/sculptors H.C. Dobbe and Van Pelt.
