Inleiding.
GRAFMONUMENT voor Bram Lafeber (1932-1944) en Frans Moussau(l)t (1930-1944), in 1944-1945 in een Realistische stijl vervaardigd door de Bossche beeldhouwer Piet Verdonk (1901-1968). Beide jongens kwamen op 11 november 1944 om het leven toen een granaat die zij gevonden hadden, explodeerde. Het graf bevindt zich iets ten zuidwesten van het lijkenhuisje (onderdeel II) in sectie 19-03-07-12.
Omschrijving.
Het graf zelf is omlijst met losliggende blokken kalksteen. Het monument bestaat uit een smalle, in oorsprong rechthoekige, kalksteen (savonnières) en heeft een kale sokkel waarop in losse bronzen letters de namen en geboorte- en sterfdata van de jongens vermeld staan. Daarboven begint de gebeeldhouwde voorstelling die het dramatische moment vlak voor de ontploffing van de granaat weergeeft. De beide jongens zitten geknield bij een granaat en onderzoeken deze. Over hen heengebogen bevindt zich een engel die de armen en vleugels om hen heen gespreid heeft om ze als het ware mee naar het paradijs te nemen. In zijn linkerhand draagt de engel een lelie. Het monument is aan de linkerzijde gesigneerd met het monogram van Piet Verdonk.
Waardering.
Het grafmonument is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociale en geestelijke ontwikkeling, in het bijzonder de ontwikkeling van de katholieke grafcultuur, het is tevens van belang als illustratie van de typologische ontwikkeling van het grafmonument.
