Omschrijving
Inleiding.
Voormalig LIJKENHUIS, in 1872 in neoromaanse vormen gebouwd. Het pand bevindt zich iets ten oosten van de kapel (onderdeel II), midden op het terrein van de begraafplaats. De zinken dakbedekking is omstreeks 1988 vervangen door de huidige van dakleer.
Omschrijving.
Het éénlaags gebouw heeft een rechthoekige grondslag met een uitstekende middenrisaliet met gevels in schoon metselwerk onder met dakleer gedekte zadeldaken met klein overstek en houten klossen. Opvallende decoratie door middel van een circa 60 cm hoge gecementeerde plint, gecementeerde hoekpilasters, rondboogfries onder de dakrand en vensterwenkbrauwen. Gekoppelde rondboogvensters met hardstenen onderdorpels en zesruits ramen met Y-vormig gedeeld klapbaar bovenlicht. Oorspronkelijk bevond de ingang van het gebouw zich centraal in de middenrisaliet. Deze is verplaatst naar de rechterzijde van de voorgevel. Hiervoor werden twee bestaande vensters respectievelijk verkleind en vergroot. Aan de achtergevel is de detaillering soberder. Het rondboogfries is vervangen door een doorlopende cementering. De centrale deur voor het toilet wordt hier geflankeerd door twee rondboogvensters als in de voorgevel. Deze worden op hun beurt weer geflankeerd door gekoppelde kleine rondboogvenstertjes.
Waardering.
Het voormalige lijkenhuis is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociale en geestelijke ontwikkeling, in het bijzonder de ontwikkeling van de katholieke grafcultuur, het is tevens van belang als illustratie van de typologische ontwikkeling van met begraafplaatsen verbonden architectuur. Het heeft architectuurhistorische waarde vanwege de toegepaste neoromaanse stijlelementen. The single-storey building has a rectangular ground plan with a protruding central risalit with facades in fair-faced brickwork under gabled roofs covered with roof leather with small overhang and wooden blocks. Striking decoration by means of a cemented plinth approximately 60 cm high, cemented corner pilasters, round-arch frieze under the roof edge and window pediments. Coupled round-arch windows with hardstone sills and six-pane casements with Y-shaped divided hinged fanlight. Originally the entrance of the building was located centrally in the central risalit. This has been relocated to the right side of the front facade. For this purpose two existing windows were respectively reduced and enlarged. On the rear facade the detailing is more austere. The round-arch frieze has been replaced by continuous cementation. The central door for the toilet is here flanked by two round-arch windows as in the front facade. These in turn are flanked by coupled small round-arch windows.
Valuation.
The former mortuary is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of a social and spiritual development, in particular the development of Catholic grave culture, it is also of importance as an illustration of the typological development of architecture associated with cemeteries.
