Inleiding
HERENHUIS "Villa Wilhelmina" is in 1904-1905 gebouwd naar ontwerp van de architect E. Kalverboer. Het pand maakt onderdeel uit van het complex "Nieuwlandersingel" langs de Singelgracht tegenover het Kennemerpark in Alkmaar.
Omschrijving
Het herenhuis heeft een langwerpige rechthoekige plattegrond en telt boven het souterrain twee bouwlagen en een zolder onder afgeknot schilddak met grotendeels rode Hollandse pannen. Het linker dakschild is gedekt met gesmoorde kruispannen. De voorgevel is boven het gepleisterde souterrain op decoratieve wijze opgetrokken in oranje en gele strengperssteen, de achtergevel in bruine baksteen. De schuifvensters zijn grotendeels voorzien van een vertikale roedenverdeling in de bovenlichten. Boven de vensters aan de onderzijde getoogde strekken van gele verblendsteen met aanzetstukken van grijze natuursteen. De voorgevel telt vier vensterassen waarvan de linker drie in een erkeruitbouw met afgesnoten hoeken. De middelste brede vensteras bevindt zich in een verhoogde gevelpartij met ver overstekende houten puntgevel met windveren en makelaar. Op de verdieping een dubbele glasdeur met rondboogvormige ramen en een bovenlicht naar een Frans balkon. Onder de topgevel een balkon met gemetselde balustrade waarop een glasdeur met spitsboogvormig bovenlicht en rondboogvormige zijlichten opent. In de afgesnoten vensterassen schuifvensters met tweeruits bovenlichten en in de rechter vensteras op de bel etage de entree in een portiek met tegellambrizering in Art Nouveaustijl. Een hardstenen trap van vijf treden leidt naar de paneeldeur onder drieruits bovenlicht. Daarboven bevindt zich een verdiepingvenster met openslaande ramen onder een vierruits bovenlicht en in het dakschild een kleine dakkapel. Aan de achterzijde is de bel etage iets uitgebouwd en bevat links een eenvoudige glasdeur met zijlicht en rechts een schuifpui onder zesruits bovenlicht met gekleurde glas-in-loodramen. Op de verdieping een balkon over de hele breedte van de gevel.
INTERIEUR. Van het interieur uit de bouwtijd zijn onder meer de oorspronkelijke plattegrondindeling, trap, paneeldeuren en ornamentstucplafonds en glas-in-loodramen in Art Nouveau trant bewaard gebleven.
Waardering
Het herenhuis "Villa Wilhelmina" uit 1905-1905 is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuur- en architectuurhistorische waarde als grotendeels gave representant van de Art Nouveaustijl, zowel uit- als inwendig, uit het oeuvre van de architect Kalverboer. The townhouse has an elongated rectangular floor plan and comprises, above the basement, two storeys and an attic under a hipped roof with mostly red Dutch tiles. The left roof slope is covered with laid-down crossed tiles. The front facade is, above the rendered basement, constructed in a decorative manner in orange and yellow moulded brick, the rear facade in brown brick. The sash windows are mostly provided with a vertical glazing bars in the fanlights. Above the windows at the lower level arched stretches of yellow facing brick with setting pieces of grey natural stone. The front facade has four window bays, the left three of which are in a bay projection with clipped corners. The middle broad window bay is situated in a raised gable section with a far-projecting wooden pointed gable with wind vanes and weathervane. On the first floor a double glass door with round-arched windows and a fanlight opening onto a French balcony. Below the apex gable a balcony with masonry balustrade upon which a glass door with pointed-arched fanlight and round-arched side lights opens. In the clipped window bays sash windows with two-light fanlights and in the right window bay on the second storey the entrance in a porch with Art Nouveau style tile wainscoting. A stone staircase of five steps leads to the panelled door under a three-light fanlight. Above it is situated a first-floor window with casement windows under a four-light fanlight and in the roof slope a small dormer window. On the rear side the second storey is slightly projected and contains on the left a simple glass door with side light and on the right a sash window frame under a six-light fanlight with coloured stained-glass windows. On the first floor a balcony across the full width of the facade.
INTERIOR. Of the interior from the building period, the original floor plan layout, staircase, panelled doors and ornamental stucco ceilings and stained-glass windows in Art Nouveau style have been preserved, among other things.
Valuation
The townhouse "Villa Wilhelmina" from 1904-1905 is of general interest on account of its cultural and architectural-historical value as a largely intact representative of the Art Nouveau style, both externally and internally, from the oeuvre of architect Kalverboer.
