Inleiding
Voormalige DIENSTWONING van de tuinbaas, deel uitmakend van het complex van de psychiatrische inrichting Duin en Bosch. De woning werd in 1907-1909 gebouwd naar ontwerp van architect F.W.M. Poggenbeek in de stijl van het Rationalisme. Het bevindt zich aan de Zeeweg, nabij de dienstingang op de hoek van het perceel dat voor hakhout bestemd was.
Omschrijving
Op L-vormige plattegrond in grauw/rood bakstenen Vlaams verband opgetrokken bouwvolume onder met rode bouletpannen gedekte, overkragende zadeldaken. De oostelijke, symmetrische gevel heeft een deur met bovenlicht en aan weerszijden een kruiskozijn met onder luiken. In de kap is een dakkapel geplaatst onder een lessenaardak en met een stolpraam. De noordelijke gevel aan de Zeeweg heeft in het midden van het dwarsdeel links openslaande deuren onder drieruits bovenlichten en hierboven een stolpraam. De voordeur met bovenlicht bevindt zich in de terugliggende rechter gevelhelft onder een doorgetrokken dakschild dat rust op houten schoren. Rechts van de voordeur bevindt zich een hoog, smal venster. In de kap een dakkapel als in de oostgevel.
De westelijke gevel heeft op de begane grond van links naar rechts een kruiskozijn met onder luiken en twee kleine vensters, en in de top twee stolpramen.
De zuidelijke gevel heeft twee schuiframen met elk één luik, links een tuindeur met bovenlicht, en in de top twee stolpramen. Boven de tuindeur bevindt zich in de kap een dakkapel als aan de oostzijde.
Waardering
De tuinbaaswoning uit 1907-1909 met bijbehorende schuur is van algemeen belang als historisch-functioneel onderdeel van het ziekenhuiscomplex Duin en Bosch. Vanwege de architectonische vormgeving in de stijl van het rationalisme. Van belang voor het oeuvre van architect Poggenbeek. Vanwege de ensemblewaarde.

Former SERVICE HOUSE of the head gardener, forming part of the complex of the psychiatric institution Duin en Bosch. The house was built in 1907-1909 to the design of architect F.W.M. Poggenbeek in the Rationalist style. It is located at the Zeeweg, near the service entrance at the corner of the plot designated for coppice wood.
Description
A building volume with an L-shaped floor plan built in grey/red brick Flemish bond under hipped roofs tiled with red machine-made clay tiles with overhanging eaves. The eastern, symmetrical façade has a door with fanlight and on either side a cross window with shutters beneath. In the roof is a roof dormer with a sloping roof and a frame window. The northern façade facing the Zeeweg has in the centre of the transverse section on the left double doors opening onto three-paned fanlights and above these a frame window. The front door with fanlight is located in the recessed right gable half under a continuous roof panel resting on wooden brackets. To the right of the front door is a tall, narrow window. In the roof a roof dormer as on the eastern façade.
The western façade has on the ground floor from left to right a cross window with shutters beneath and two small windows, and in the peak two frame windows.
The southern façade has two sash windows each with one shutter, on the left a garden door with fanlight, and in the peak two frame windows. Above the garden door is in the roof a roof dormer as on the east side.
Valuation
The head gardener's house from 1907-1909 with its associated shed is of general importance as a historical-functional component of the Duin en Bosch hospital complex.
