Omschrijving
GEBOUW C

Description
BUILDING C
Against the east side of the modelmaking workshop (building B), the WAREHOUSE was built in 1905, likewise with style elements borrowed from neo-renaissance. It is possible that this warehouse is also a design of the architectural firm Beltman from Enschede.
The building is constructed on a rectangular ground plan and has five storeys. The facades are built up in reddish-brown brick. A grey stone, partly alternated with yellow facing brick, is incorporated for decoration in horizontal bands running across the entire width of the facade surface. Yellow facing brick is used in the segmental arch frieze and the roof edge. The brickwork is executed in cross bond. Along the south facade runs a rendered plinth.
The facade surfaces have horizontal and vertical articulation through the application of segmentally arched, iron windows with a sixteen-paned division. The windows on the top storey have a twelve-paned division. The horizontal articulation is reinforced by bands, executed in grey stone and yellow facing brick, which connect the windows to each other at the level of upper, lower and intermediate lintels. The facade surfaces are, with the exception of the north facade, flanked by brickwork pilasters, which at the top merge into the segmental arch frieze and the raised brickwork cornice of the flat roof. In its original condition, an almost man-high open brickwork balustrade stood on this cornice. Ornamental wall anchors, cast by DRU themselves, adorn the facade surfaces.
The WEST FACADE is built in up to the fourth storey by the modelmaking workshop (building B). Only the five windows of the top storey are visible.
The NORTH FACADE is entirely blank and not provided with any decoration.
The EAST FACADE is also partly built in by the stamping mill (building D).
Only the SOUTH FACADE is completely visible.
The construction in the INTERIOR is built up from steel/cast iron columns and beams, over which the wooden floor joists lie. The iron columns become smaller in dimension on the higher storeys and have special detailing.
Valuation
- Of architectural historical importance as a good and reasonably well-preserved example of a factory building from 1905. The five-storey building is notable in particular for the application of the segmental arch frieze executed in yellow facing brick under the roof edge.
- Of urban planning importance due to its location at the entrance of the factory complex on the Hutteweg, which has formed the access route from the beginning of DRU. The building forms part of a historically developed factory site and plays a visually defining role in it. Additionally, the object has ensemble value in relation to its surrounding built environment.
- Of cultural-historical importance due to its original function which is connected to the important industrial development in the Liemers and thus represents an aspect of economic history.
