Inleiding
De VIERDE STATIE "Christus ontmoet Maria op weg naar Golgota" is in 1916 in opdracht van de Heilig-Land-Stichting uitgevoerd naar ontwerp van Piet Gerrits en geplaatst in het bos ten zuidwesten van het Sanhedrin. Een jaar eerder werden op palmzondag 14 eenvoudige gedenkstenen geplaatst als tekens van Christus' kruisweg door de straten van Jeruzalem. Een aantal van deze kruiswegstaties is in de periode 1916-1931 verduidelijkt door bouwsels en/of figuratieve voorstellingen in reliëf of mozaïek. Dit object maakt binnen het complex van de Heilig-Land-Stichting onderdeel uit van het thema "lijdensweg van Christus".
Omschrijving
Op deze in reliëf uitgevoerde voorstelling ontmoet Christus, die het kruis draagt, zijn moeder. Maria maakt met haar handen een helpend gebaar. Rechts van Christus staat achter het kruis een Romeinse soldaat. Links van Maria zakt een vrouw in de knieën van ontzetting. Een andere vrouw wendt haar gezicht af en bedekt het met haar hand. Johannes vouwt zijn handen in elkaar. De polychroom beschilderde figuren zijn vrij massief behandeld en hebben enkele vloeiende plooien in de kleding. Tussen Christus en Maria is de vlakke achtergrond voorzien van drie takken met bladeren. De voorstelling wordt spitsboogvormig afgesloten. De linker helft van de boog is open gelaten.
De architectonische omlijsting van de reliëfvoorstelling bestaat uit een dikke in halfsteensverband gemetselde muur met een topgevel die met cement is afgedekt. De verdiept in de muur gelegen voorstelling is gericht naar het noordoosten.

Introduction
The FOURTH STATION "Christ meets Mary on the way to Golgotha" was executed in 1916 by order of the Heilig-Land-Stichting to a design by Piet Gerrits and placed in the woodland south-west of the Sanhedrin. A year earlier, on Palm Sunday fourteen simple memorial stones were placed as signs of Christ's way of the cross through the streets of Jerusalem. A number of these stations of the cross were clarified in the period 1916-1931 by structures and/or figurative representations in relief or mosaic. Within the complex of the Heilig-Land-Stichting, this object forms part of the theme "Passion of Christ".
Description
In this relief representation, Christ, who bears the cross, meets his mother. Mary makes a helping gesture with her hands. To the right of Christ stands a Roman soldier behind the cross. To the left of Mary a woman sinks to her knees in horror. Another woman turns her face away and covers it with her hand. John joins his hands together. The polychrome painted figures are treated rather massively and have some flowing folds in the clothing. Between Christ and Mary, the flat background is provided with three branches with leaves. The representation is closed off in a pointed arch shape. The left half of the arch is left open.
The architectural frame of the relief representation consists of a thick wall built in half-brick bond with a stepped gable which is covered with cement. The representation, set back in the wall, faces north-east.
