Inleiding
Het HERDERSVELD en de eenvoudige WACHTTOREN met LOOFHUT voor herders is omstreeks 1918 in opdracht van de Heilig-Land-Stichting aangelegd nabij het dorpje Nazareth op een helling in het zuidoostelijke deel van het terrein van het huidige Bijbels Openluchtmuseum. Binnen het complex van de Heilig-Land-Stichting maakt het onderdeel uit van het thema "verborgen leven van Christus". Het bestaat uit een terrasvormig aangelegd VELD met lage muurtjes van grote blokken mergelsteen; een terrein zoals ze ook in het Nabije Oosten voorkomen. Op het hoogste punt van het veld is een WACHTTOREN met LOOFHUT voor herders gebouwd, bestaande uit een stenen podium met loofhut waarin twee BEELDEN van P. Gerrits staan opgesteld die oorspronkelijk elders op het terrein bij de zogenaamde Bergrede hebben gestaan. De beelden dateren uit ca. 1950.
Omschrijving
Een met gras ingezaaid open VELD op een in zuidelijke richting afhellend terrein met lage, deels gepleisterde muurtjes van mergelblokken. De in mergelblokken opgetrokken, manshoge WACHTTOREN heeft een rechthoekig grondplan en kan betreden worden via een hierin uitgespaarde hoektrap. Aan de zijde van het veld is op de wachttoren een eenvoudige LOOFHUT van palen en takken gebouwd. In deze loofhut staan twee stenen BEELDEN opgesteld, voorstellende twee zittende mannen in Palestijnse klederdracht die beide een fluit bespelen.

Introduction
The SHEPHERDS' FIELD and the simple WATCHTOWER with LEAFY HUT for shepherds was created around 1918 on behalf of the Heilig-Land-Stichting (Holy Land Foundation) near the village of Nazareth on a slope in the south-eastern part of the grounds of the present Bijbels Openluchtmuseum (Biblical Open-Air Museum). Within the complex of the Heilig-Land-Stichting it forms part of the theme "hidden life of Christ". It consists of a FIELD laid out in terraces with low walls of large blocks of marl stone; terrain such as is also found in the Near East. At the highest point of the field a WATCHTOWER with LEAFY HUT for shepherds has been built, consisting of a stone platform with a leafy hut in which two SCULPTURES by P. Gerrits are displayed which originally stood elsewhere on the grounds at the so-called Sermon on the Mount. The sculptures date from around 1950.
Description
An open FIELD seeded with grass on a terrace sloping in a southern direction with low, partly plastered walls of marl blocks. The WATCHTOWER, constructed of marl blocks, standing at man's height, has a rectangular floor plan and can be accessed via a corner staircase cut out within it. On the side facing the field, a simple LEAFY HUT of posts and branches has been built on the watchtower. In this leafy hut stand two stone SCULPTURES, depicting two sitting men in Palestinian dress, each playing a flute.
