Inleiding
Dubbel WOONHUIS, halfvrijstaand gesitueerd naast de voormalige U.L.O.-school. Het pand werd gebouwd in 1932 naar een ontwerp van architect Joz Wielders uit Sittard. De toegepaste bouwstijl is traditionalistisch.
De aanbouw aan de achtergevel van pand met huisnummer 21 is uitgesloten van bescherming.
Omschrijving
Dubbel woonhuis in twee bouwlagen onder zadeldaken gedekt met Tuiles du Nord. Gevels in baksteen; metselwerk in kettingverband. Rechthoekige houten vensters en deuren.
Pand met HUISNUMMER 19: tussenpand in lengterichting op straatzijde gelegen. Asymmetrische indeling FRONTGEVEL.
In het linkerfrontgeveldeel een rechthoekige erker over twee bouwlagen met plat betonnen dak met overstek. Erkervensters eerste bouwlaag met beton latei doorlopend als luifel boven de voordeur. Deur met driedelig bovenlicht. Aan de rechterzijde van de erker tweede bouwlaag een rechthoekig venster. Een brede dakkapel.
In rechterdeel van de ACHTERGEVEL een uitbouw van een serre met bakstenen basement met houten opbouw met plat dak. Op de serre een balkon met houten balustrade van recenter datum. Balkondeuren met zijlichten. In het linkerdeel van de achtergevel een uitbouw in twee bouwlagen met plat dak. Aan de achtergevel van deze uitbouw een tweede uitbouw in een bouwlaag met plat dak. In de uitbouwen vensters met houten kozijnen.
INTERIEUR-indeling deels in tact. Pand met HUISNUMMER 21: hoekpand in dwarsrichting op straatzijde gelegen. Symmetrische indeling FRONTGEVEL. In middendeel frontgevel rechthoekige houten deur met aan weerszijden een glas-in-lood zijlicht. Deur met hardstenen dorpel. Aan rechterzijde van de deur een hardstenen brievenbus. Aan weerszijden van de deur een driedelig venster. Deur en vensters eerste bouwlaag met doorlopende beton latei. Middendeel frontgevel vanaf de tweede bouwlaag iets vooruitspringend en uitlopend in een in het dak doorlopend geveldeel. In dit geveldeel in de tweede bouwlaag zes vensters. Op dit doorlopende geveldeel een brede dakkapel met plat dak met overstek. LINKERZIJGEVEL uitlopend in een topgevel. In het middendeel van de eerste bouwlaag een dubbel venster. Aan de linkerzijde van dit venster een klein venstertje. Middendeel linkerzijgevel vanaf de tweede bouwlaag iets vooruitspringend. Aan bovenzijde van vensters eerste bouwlaag een doorlopende betonlatei. In de tweede bouwlaag drie vensters. Dakgoten op ongelijke hoogte.
Aan de RECHTERZIJGEVEL een uitbouw in een bouwlaag met plat dak. Op dit plat dak een balkon met metalen leuning van omstreeks 1995. Het rechterdeel van het balkon betreft een vergroting. Balkondeur met aan de rechterzijde een dubbel venster. In de topgevel rechterzijgevel een venster. In linkergeveldeel van de uitbouw een venster van omstreeks 1990.
INTERIEURINDELING gewijzigd.
Waardering
Het dubbel woonhuis bezit architectuurhistorische waarde vanwege bijzonder belang van dit ontwerp voor de bovenregionale geschiedenis van de architectuur en als voorbeeld van het oeuvre van architect Joz Wielders. Ensemblewaarde ontleent het pand aan de situering aan het vml. Vredesplein in de onmiddellijke nabijheid van de voormalige U.L.O. school en daarmee van belang voor het aanzien van dit deel van Heerlen. De wijze waarop het pand als hoekoplossing is gesitueerd en daarmee de hoek van het plein accentueert is bijzonder te noemen. De plaatsing van de entree in de lange gevel aan het plein geeft deze gevel een gezicht en speelt in op het horizontalisme van het naastliggende schoolgebouw. Het gebouw is tenslotte van algemeen belang wegens de redelijke mate van architectonische gaafheid van het exterieur en de architectuurhistorische zeldzaamheid en bijzondere situering.

On both sides of the door a three-part window. Door and windows first storey with continuous concrete lintel. Middle section front facade from the second storey slightly projecting and terminating in a facade section running through the roof. In this facade section in the second storey six windows. Valuation
The double dwelling possesses architectural-historical value owing to particular importance of this design for the supraregional history of architecture and as an example of the oeuvre of architect Joz Wielders. The building derives ensemble value from the siting at the former Vredesplein in the immediate vicinity of the former U.L.O. school and is thereby of importance for the appearance of this part of Heerlen. The manner in which the building is situated as a corner solution and thereby emphasises the corner of the square is to be remarked upon. The placement of the entrance in the long facade at the square gives this facade a character and responds to the horizontalism of the neighbouring school building. The building is finally of general importance owing to the reasonable degree of architectural integrity of the exterior and the architectural-historical rarity and particular siting.
