Inleiding

Introduction

The STUDIO HOUSE "Huis op de Linde" by architect F.P.J. Peutz, was built to his own design in 1931 according to the principles of the Nieuwe Bouwen. The semi-detached building is composed of two volumes of different height and dimension. In June 1991 completely restored and fitted out as an office for Coumans Planburo by architect Arn Meijs. Some door openings have been closed off with sheet material. EXCLUDED FROM PROTECTION is the black storefront with frosted glass in the Chinese room from around 1995. The sun blinds on the rear side.

Description

The STUDIO HOUSE consists of two interlocking volumes of three and four storeys under flat roofs. The cement render facades have an asymmetrical facade layout with large, predominantly horizontal rectangular grey-blue steel windows with unglazed threshold stones. The facade further contains rectangular doors located under canopies and accessible via stairs with balustrades and railings. The FRONT FACADE of the three-storey volume contains two broad window sections, of which the lower one is recessed, surrounded by a parapet. On the third storey there is a two-part window, as does the RIGHT SIDE FACADE of this volume. In the FRONT FACADE of the four-storey volume is the entrance. A steel door with broad window, is located under a canopy and at a platform with stairs. The facade is otherwise blind.

The RIGHT SIDE FACADE of this volume has on the left a continuous window at the position of the stairwell. Below this is a projecting facade section with small windows, which rises on the right as a pilaster and is crowned by the sculpture "De Bokkerijder" by Charles Vos. On the left between the stairwell and the pilaster are three small windows with glazing bars and on the right three large windows. Respectively four-part, three-part and with glazing bars. To the right of this is a garage door and on the fourth storey two more two-part windows.

The REAR FACADE has on the first storey a broad window, a door and stairs. The facades further contain two three-part windows.

The LEFT SIDE FACADE of this volume has a platform with door with glazing bars and a three-part window, above which is a single and a three-part window. On the fourth storey is a two-part window. The facade thereby runs along the roof terrace on the low volume and has here another door and windows.

The REAR FACADE of the low volume projects on the first storey beneath the platform and has a double door. On the second and third storeys are four-part window frames, of which that at the platform has a double door.

The STRUCTURE of the INTERIOR is highly intact. The colour scheme in the stairwell is derived from the original colours, in particular the black stair railing, light grey walls, dark grey woodwork. Interior components worthy of protection include the original doors partly with black horizontal band or horizontal window. The original steel sliding partition with glass and the wooden sliding doors with glazing bars in the studio in the basement.

Valuation

The cultural-historical values of Peutz's studio house are determined by the combination of function and applied architectural style. The building possesses high architectural-historical values which are determined by its special importance for the history of architecture and building technology, particularly for Limburg. As one of the first buildings in the Nieuwe Bouwen architectural style within the oeuvre of architect Peutz, the building is of particular importance, among other reasons for the high-quality aesthetic qualities of the design and the use of materials. The building is furthermore of importance because of the special coherence between exterior and interior, which is also highly intact architecturally. The building is of general importance because of its architectural-historical, typological and building-technical rarity and is of exceptional architectural-historical importance.
