Inleiding
In de stijl van het traditionalisme in 1903 gebouwd voormalig klooster met gasthuis. Het ontwerp is van architect L. Kooken uit Eindhoven die verantwoordelijk was voor het ontwerp van een groot aantal gebouwen in Griendtsveen. Het voormalig klooster met gasthuis is in de onmiddellijke nabijheid van de Sint Barbarakerk en de pastorie van Griendtsveen gesitueerd.
Omschrijving
Vrijstaand voormalig klooster met gasthuis op een rechthoekige plattegrond in lengterichting. Het pand telt twee bouwlagen onder een schilddak met betonpannen. Het toegepaste bouwmateriaal is baksteen met metselwerk in kruisverband. Rechthoekige houten deuren en vensters met bovenlichten met roedeverdeling. Deuren met natuurstenen dorpels.
Symmetrische indeling voorgevel. Gecementeerde plint. Middendeel voorgevel vooruitspringend en uitlopend in een topgevel met zadeldakje met overstek. In de topgevel een console met hierop een beeld van Sint Catharina.
In het vooruitspringend geveldeel een rechthoekige houten dubbele voordeur met bovenlicht en in de tweede bouwlaag een rechthoekig venster met een rondboogvormig vulstuk met hierin de console met beeld. In de eerste en tweede bouwlaag van de terugliggende gevel twee maal twee vensters met in de eerste bouwlaag segmentboogvormige vulstukken en in de tweede bouwlaag met een geaccentueerde latei.
Rechterzijgevel met deur met bovenlicht en segmentboogvormig vulstuk. In de tweede bouwlaag een rechthoekig venster met geaccentueerde latei. Een dakkapel. Linkerzijgevel met centraal een deur met bovenlicht en aan weerszijden van de deur een venster. In de tweede bouwlaag drie rechthoekige vensters. Een dakkapel.
De achtergevel is geheel gecementeerd. Rechthoekige houten vensters met bovenlichten met roedeverdeling.
Aan het middendeel van de achtergevel een uitbouw in twee bouwlagen met plat dak. In de achtergevel van deze uitbouw in elke bouwlaag een reeks van vier kleine venstertjes. In de linkerzijgevel van de uitbouw in de eerste bouwlaag een rechthoekige deur. Hierboven een venster. In de oksel van de uitbouw en het rechterdeel van de achtergevel een uitbouw in een bouwlaag met plat dak.
Het INTERIEUR is qua structuur grotendeels in tact hetgeen blijkt uit de situering van gang, trappenhuis en kamers. In de hal een tweetal rondbogen.
Waardering
Het voormalig kloostertje met gasthuis van Griendtsveen bezit cultuurhistorische waarde als voorbeeld van een gebouw met enerzijds een religieuze functie en anderzijds een functie voor de lokale gezondheidszorg.
Architectuurhistorische waarde bezit het gebouw als voorbeeld van het oeuvre van architect L. Kooken die verantwoordelijk was voor een groot deel van de bebouwing in de kern Griendstveen. Het pand bezit ensemblewaarde waarde in relatie met de nabij gelegen parochiekerk met pastorie. Het kloostertje met gasthuis is van algemeen belang op grond van de cultuurhistorische zeldzaamheid en de hoge mate van gaafheid van ex- en interieur.

Description
Detached former convent with hospice on a rectangular ground plan in lengthwise direction. The building comprises two storeys under a hipped roof with concrete tiles. The building material used is brick with masonry laid in English bond. Rectangular wooden doors and windows with fanlights with glazing bars. Doors with natural stone thresholds.
Symmetrical layout of front facade. Cemented plinth. Central section of front facade projecting and terminating in a stepped gable with small gabled roof with overhang. In the stepped gable a console with an image of Sint Catharina on it.
In the projecting facade section a rectangular wooden double front door with fanlight and in the second storey a rectangular window with a rounded arch fill with therein the console with image. In the first and second storey of the recessed facade two by two windows with in the first storey segmental arch fill and in the second storey with an accentuated lintel.

Left side facade with centrally a door with fanlight and on either side of the door a window. In the second storey three rectangular windows. A dormer window.
The rear facade is entirely cemented. Rectangular wooden windows with fanlights with glazing bars.
Attached to the central section of the rear facade an extension in two storeys with flat roof. In the rear facade of this extension in each storey a series of four small window panes. In the left side facade of the extension in the first storey a rectangular door. Above it a window. In the corner between the extension and the right section of the rear facade an extension in one storey with flat roof.
The INTERIOR is structurally largely intact as evidenced by the arrangement of corridor, stairwell and rooms. In the hall two round arches.
Valuation
The former small convent with hospice of Griendtsveen possesses cultural-historical value as an example of a building with on the one hand a religious function and on the other hand a function for local healthcare.
The building possesses architectural-historical value as an example of the oeuvre of architect L. Kooken who was responsible for a large part of the built environment in the centre of Griendtsveen.
