Inleiding
Woonhuis gebouwd voor het stafpersoneel van de firma Van der Griendt. De woning is gebouwd in de stijl van het traditionalisme. Het ontwerp wordt toegeschreven aan architect L. Kooken. De woning dateert van omstreeks 1901. De woning is gesitueerd aan het begin van een van de lanen rondom de villa Spagnum.
Omschrijving
Vrijstaand woonhuis met een veelhoekig grondplan: een L-vormige plattegrond vormt de basis. Het toegepaste bouwmateriaal is baksteen met metselwerk in kruisverband. Alle gevels zijn wit gesaust. Geglazuurde keramische dorpelstenen. Rechthoekige en rondboogvormige houten vensters. Bovenlichten deels met roedeverdeling. Het woonhuis telt twee bouwlagen en wordt afgedekt met twee haaks op elkaar staande wolfsdaken met rode muldenpannen.
Asymmetrische indeling voorgevel. Linkerdeel voorgevel vooruitspringend met in de eerste bouwlaag een vijfzijdige erker met plat dak. Op het dak van de erker een balkon met baksteen balustrade. De grote vensters in de erker dateren van omstreeks 1977. De bovenlichten hebben nog de authentieke vorm. Balkondeur met zijlichten in een rondboogvormige baksteen omlijsting. In het linkerdeel van het terugliggend geveldeel de authentieke voordeur onder een luifel op houten consoles. Luifel gedekt met muldenpannen. Aan de rechterzijde van de voordeur een rechthoekig venster met rondboogvormig bovenlicht. In de tweede bouwlaag van het terugliggend geveldeel twee rondboogvormige venstertjes en drie gedeelde rondboog venstertjes. In de eerste bouwlaag helemaal rechts een klein rechthoekig venstertje.
Rechterzijgevel eveneens asymmetrisch ingedeeld. Linkergeveldeel vooruitspringend met in de eerste en tweede bouwlaag kleine venstertjes. In het rechtergeveldeel in de eerste bouwlaag twee rechthoekige vensters met rondboogvormig bovenlicht. In de tweede bouwlaag een driedelig venster.
Blinde linkerzijgevel met alleen twee geprofileerde schoorsteenkanalen.
Linkerdeel achtergevel vooruitspringend met in de eerste bouwlaag een deur met rechts hiervan een tweedelig venster. In de tweede bouwlaag een driedelig venster. In de oksel van het vooruitspringende geveldeel en het terugliggende geveldeel een serre met plat dak. Rechterdeel achtergevel uitlopend in een topgevel met hierin een driedelig rondboogvormig venster met bovenlichten met roedeverdeling.
Structuur van het interieur vrijwel in tact hetgeen blijkt uit de situering van gang, trappenhuis en kamers. In de kamer links van de gang een schoorsteenmantel in zwarte marmer.
Waardering
Het woonhuis "Erica" is van architectuurhistorische waarde als redelijk gaaf en goed voorbeeld van een vrij rijk uitgevoerd woonhuis uit het begin van de twintigste eeuw, gebouwd in de stijl van het traditionalisme. Het deels goed bewaard gebleven interieur onderstreept de monumentale waarde van het pand.
Het woonhuis heeft situeringswaarde als karakteristiek onderdeel van het beschermd gezicht Griendtsveen waarbinnen het object een beeldbepalende rol speelt.
Het object heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uiting van een sociaal-economische en industriële ontwikkeling, als stafwoning herinnert het aan de hier aanwezige en bloeiende turfstrooiselindustrie.

Detached residential house with a polygonal ground plan: an L-shaped floor plan forms the basis. The building material used is brick with brickwork in English bond. All facades are whitewashed. Glazed ceramic door sills. Rectangular and arched wooden windows. Fanlights partly with glazing bars. The residential house has two storeys and is covered with two half-hipped roofs at right angles to each other with red Spanish tiles.
Asymmetrical arrangement front facade. Left part front facade projecting forward with in the first storey a five-sided bay window with flat roof. On the roof of the bay window a balcony with brick balustrade. The large windows in the bay window date from circa 1977. The fanlights still have the authentic form. Balcony door with side lights in an arched brick surround. In the left part of the recessed facade section the authentic front door under a canopy on wooden consoles. Canopy covered with Spanish tiles. On the right side of the front door a rectangular window with arched fanlight. In the second storey of the recessed facade section two arched small windows and three divided arched windows. In the first storey on the far right a small rectangular small window.
Right side facade likewise asymmetrically arranged. Left facade section projecting forward with in the first and second storey small windows. In the right facade section in the first storey two rectangular windows with arched fanlight. In the second storey a three-part window.
Blind left side facade with only two profiled chimney shafts.
Left part rear facade projecting forward with in the first storey a door with to the right of it a two-part window. In the second storey a three-part window. In the corner of the projecting facade section and the recessed facade section a conservatory with flat roof. Right part rear facade terminating in a stepped gable with therein a three-part arched window with fanlights with glazing bars.
Structure of the interior largely intact as evidenced by the location of hallway, staircase and rooms. In the room to the left of the hallway a fireplace mantel in black marble.
Valuation
The residential house "Erica" is of architectural-historical value as a reasonably well-preserved and good example of a fairly richly executed residential house from the early twentieth century, built in the traditionalist style. The partly well-preserved interior underscores the monumental value of the building.
The residential house has situational value as a characteristic component of the protected townscape Griendtsveen within which the object plays a defining role in the townscape.
The object has cultural-historical value as a special expression of a socio-economic and industrial development, as a staff residence it recalls the peat litter industry that was present and thriving here.
