Inleiding
Vrijstaand woonhuis gebouwd voor het stafpersoneel van de firma Van der Griendt.
De firma Van der Griendt was verantwoordelijk voor de turfstrooiselwinning in en rond Griendtsveen. Van de oorspronkelijk 12 woningen resteren nog 10 woningen. Slechts vier van deze tien panden verkeren in een redelijk gave staat. De panden werden omstreeks 1900 gebouwd in een tradionalistische stijl met elementen van de Engelse landhuisstijl. Het ontwerp voor de woningen wordt toegeschreven aan architect L. Kooken uit Eindhoven.
Omschrijving
De basis van het ontwerp is een L-vormig grondplan. Dit pand vormt hierop een variatie. Het pand telt een bouwlaag plus dakverdieping en wordt afgedekt met afgewolfde zadeldaken met betonpannen. Het toegepaste bouwmateriaal is baksteen en hout. Gecementeerde plint.
Rechthoekige houten vensters en deuren. Bovenlichten met kleine roedeverdeling. Rechterdeel voorgevel vooruitspringend met in de eerste bouwlaag een driedelig venster. Gecementeerde dorpelsteen en gebogen strek. Geveldeel uitlopend in een topgevel met houten beschot met hierin een dubbel venster. Dak met overstek. Linkerdeel voorgevel iets terugliggend onder een luifelvormig doorlopend dakgedeelte. de luifel rust op een viertal houten kolommen. In het rechterdeel van het terugliggend geveldeel de rechthoekige houten voordeur met bovenlicht. Het venster links van de deur heeft een bovelicht met roedeverdeling. In de linkerzijgevel in de eerste bouwlaag een authentiek houten venster met bovenlicht met roedeverdeling. De linkerzijgevel loopt uit in een topgevel met houten beschot met hierin een klein rechthoekig houten venster. Aan de achtergevel werd omstreeks 1980 een forse aanbouw gerealiseerd. In het linkerdeel van de oorspronkelijke woonhuisachtergevel een rechthoekig houten venster. In de rechterzijgevel een rechthoekig houten venster met bovenlicht met kleine roedeverdeling. Houten vensterluiken. Rechts van het venster de aanzet van het schoorsteenkanaal. De structuur van het interieur is vrijwel in tact hetgeen blijkt uit de situering van gang, trappenhuis en kamers.
Waardering
De voormalige stafwoning aan de Apostelweg 2 bezit cultuurhistorische waarde als voorbeeld van de huisvesting van het personeel van een firma voor de fabricage van turfstrooisel. De woning bezit architectuurhistorsche waarde wegens de toegepaste bouwstijl en de ornamentiek. Ensemblewaarde bezit deze stafwoning als onderdeel van een groter complex woningen gebouwd volgens een bepaalde opzet, van oorspronkelijk twee maal zes woningen, op korte afstand van de villa van de direkteur van de firma.
De woning is van algemeen belang op grond van de hoge mate van cultuurhistorische en architectuurhistorische zeldzaamheid en de gaafheid.

Detached residential dwelling built for the staff of the Van der Griendt company.
The Van der Griendt company was responsible for peat litter extraction in and around Griendtsveen. Of the original 12 dwellings, 10 remain. Only four of these ten buildings are in reasonably good condition. The buildings were constructed around 1900 in a traditionalist style with elements of English country house style. The design for the dwellings is attributed to architect L. Kooken from Eindhoven.
Description
The basis of the design is an L-shaped ground plan. This building forms a variation on this. The building has one storey plus attic storey and is covered with half-hipped gabled roofs with concrete tiles. The building materials used are brick and wood. Cemented plinth.
Rectangular wooden windows and doors. Fanlights with small glazing bars. Right part of front facade projecting forward with on the first storey a three-part window. Cemented threshold stone and curved stretcher. Facade section terminating in a stepped gable with wooden cladding with a double window within. Roof with overhang. Left part of front facade slightly recessed under a canopy-shaped continuous roof section. The canopy rests on four wooden columns. In the right part of the recessed facade section the rectangular wooden front door with fanlight. The window to the left of the door has a fanlight with glazing bars. In the left side facade on the first storey an authentic wooden window with fanlight with glazing bars. The left side facade terminates in a stepped gable with wooden cladding with a small rectangular wooden window within. On the rear facade a substantial extension was realised around 1980. In the left part of the original residential building rear facade a rectangular wooden window. In the right side facade a rectangular wooden window with fanlight with small glazing bars. Wooden window shutters. To the right of the window the start of the chimney flue. The structure of the interior is virtually intact as is evident from the positioning of hallway, stairwell and rooms.
Valuation
The former staff dwelling at Apostelweg 2 possesses cultural-historical value as an example of the housing of personnel of a company for the manufacture of peat litter. The dwelling possesses architectural-historical value because of the building style and ornamentation applied. This staff dwelling possesses ensemble value as part of a larger complex of dwellings built according to a specific plan, originally of two groups of six dwellings, at short distance from the villa of the director of the company.
The dwelling is of general importance on grounds of the high degree of cultural-historical and architectural-historical rarity and integrity.
