Inleiding
HERENHUIS met een traditionele en sobere aan het Neo-Classicisme ontleende gevelopbouw. In de huidige verschijningsvorm dateert het pand uit 1881. In dit jaar werd mogelijk een reeds op deze plaats aanwezig pand verbouwd tot dokterswoning. Een functie die het pand nu nog steeds bezit. Het dwarse tweebeukige woonhuis van twee bouwlagen op een hoog basement, vormt een markant element aan de Hoofdstraat. Het woonhuis vormt het meest beeldbepalende onderdeel van de dorpskern, hoog oprijzend tussen de omringende bebouwing, die hoofdzakelijk bestaat uit éénlaags woonhuizen en voormalige stadsboerderijen. Het pand ligt in de rooilijn, de vrijwel blinde rechtergevel ligt nu vrij aan het achterom van het jongere rechter buurpand.
Omschrijving
Het pand bestaat uit twee achter elkaar gelegen beuken met ieder een zadeldak evenwijdig aan de rooilijn, gedekt met gesmoorde oud-Hollandse pannen. De gevels zijn uitgevoerd in schoon metselwerk, met uitzondering van de gepleisterde achtergevel. De borstweringen zijn opmerkelijk hoog. Hoewel de hoge plint het vermoeden van hoog gelegen kelders oproept, is slechts onder het linker deel van het voorhuis een kelder met tongewelf en een met rode estrikken belegde vloer bekend. Van de kappen rust de achterste op eenvoudige Philibert spanten, de voorste is vermoedelijk in de eerste helft van de 20ste eeuw vernieuwd. De statige vijf vensterassen brede VOORGEVEL staat op een licht-grijs geschilderde, gepleisterde plint met blokverdeling. De hoge kroonlijst bestaat uit een vlak houten fries, waarop rijk uitgevoerde consoles, die de vereenvoudigde, uitkragende gootlijst dragen. De schuifvensters, onder getoogde strekken, hebben op de verdieping hun zesruiters behouden, de ramen van de begane grond en de ingang bevatten glas-in-lood in de bovenlichten. De centrale ingang wordt bereikt via een dubbele bordestrap met vier hardstenen treden aan iedere zijde, waarlangs een hek met gietijzeren balusters. Dit hekwerk vormt een recente kopie van een hekwerk van een ander pand in Asperen. Dit ter vervanging van een verdwenen voorganger. De ingang heeft een geprofileerde, getoogde omlijsting en een dubbele voordeur met een diamantkop-paneel onder en een hoog glasvak onder keperboog erboven. De gietijzeren deurroosters hebben een rijke middenpartij met florale motieven. Zeer forse, met diverse soorten bladeren gesierde gietijzeren consoles dragen het balkon boven de ingang. Het balkon heeft een gietijzeren balustrade tussen houten pijlers. Naast de ingang bevindt zich een lantaarn. De ZIJGEVELS hebben ieder twee puntgevels met in iedere top een schoorsteen. Zowel de voorste als de achterste zolder heeft een vierruits schuifraam in beide zijgevels. De van een bepleistering voorziene, vier vensterassen brede, ACHTERGEVEL valt op door de onregelmatige indeling. De rosetankers zijn eveneens onregelmatig, en bovendien per bouwlaag verschillend geplaatst. De gevel heeft een blokverdeling en is ongeschilderd. De ingang, met gewijzigde deur, bevindt zich nabij het midden, links hiervan is recent voor de openslaande tuindeuren een serre geplaatst. Zowel links als rechts van de ingang bevindt zich een stichtingssteentje. Het linker steentje is voorzien van het opschrift "DE EERSTE STEEN GELEGD / 16 JUNI 1881 DOOR". Het rechter steentje is voorzien van de aansluitende tekst "E.H.A. LEURS / GEB. VAN GENNEP". Rechts van de ingang bevindt zich een enkelruits toiletraampje en een venster met een stolpraam met een tweeruits bovenlicht. De vensters bevatten zesruits schuiframen. De vensters van de verdieping zijn voorzien uit panelen bestaande betimmeringen en vensterbanken.

- Van architectuurhistorische waarde als gaaf bewaard voorbeeld van een herenhuis in een sobere neo-classicistische trant uit de tweede helft van de negentiende eeuw. GENTLEMAN'S HOUSE with a traditional and sober facade design derived from Neo-Classicism. In its current form the building dates from 1881. The residential house forms the most visually characteristic part of the village centre, rising prominently above the surrounding buildings, which consist mainly of single-storey residential houses and former farmhouses. The building stands in line with the street frontage, the almost blank right-hand gable now stands freely at the rear of the adjoining younger right-hand neighbour.
Description
The building consists of two aisles arranged one behind the other, each with a gabled roof parallel to the street frontage, covered with soft old-Dutch tiles. The facades are executed in fair-faced brickwork, with the exception of the plastered rear facade. The parapets are remarkably high. Although the high plinth suggests high-ceilinged cellars, only under the left part of the front building is a cellar with a barrel vault and a floor laid with red brick known. Of the roof trusses the rear rests on simple Philibert trusses, the front was presumably renewed in the first half of the 20th century. The stately five-bay FRONT FACADE stands on a light-grey painted, plastered plinth with block division. The high cornice consists of a flat wooden frieze, on which richly executed corbels carry the simplified, projecting gutter moulding. The sash windows, under segmental arches, have retained their six-pane glazing on the upper storey, the windows of the ground floor and the entrance contain leaded glass in the fanlights. The central entrance is reached via a double flight of steps with four steps of hardstone on each side, alongside which is a fence with cast-iron balusters. This metalwork forms a recent copy of a fence on another building in Asperen. This in replacement of a disappeared predecessor. The entrance has a moulded, segmental surround and a double front door with a diamond-patterned panel below and a high glass section below a basket-arch above. The cast-iron door grilles have a rich central section with floral motifs. Very substantial cast-iron corbels decorated with various types of leaves support the balcony above the entrance.
