6. Het GRAFMONUMENT SMULDERS
Omschrijving
Het GRAFMONUMENT SMULDERS is ca. 1908 vervaardigd in de stijl van de Art Nouveau voor de scheepsmagnaat A.F. Smulders, die de bouwmaterialen voor het Suezkanaal had geleverd.
Het grafmonument bestaat uit een ruw granieten kruis op een brede sokkel, waarvoor een grafplaat ligt van ruw graniet. In het kruis is verdiept een bronzen portretmedaillon van A.F. Smulders en profil aangebracht. Een levensgrote bronzen vrouwenfiguur staat links voor het kruis en kijkt vol ontzag naar Smulders op. De vrouw raakt slaat met haar rechter hand op haar borst en heeft in haar linker hand een hamer in een bos eikenloof. Rechts voor het kruis ligt een krans van eikenloof met een banderol en een groot scheepsanker. In het kruis staat de volgende tekst in reliëf: "A.F. SMULDERS/ 1838-1908/ G.M. SMULDERS-WESTERLAKEN/ 1837-1919". Het graf heeft een omheining die bestaat uit blokken graniet, waar bronzen stangen met bladmotieven in reliëf tussen zijn bevestigd.

Description
The SMULDERS MEMORIAL was created circa 1908 in the Art Nouveau style for the shipping magnate A.F. Smulders, who had supplied building materials for the Suez Canal.
The memorial consists of a rough granite cross on a broad base, in front of which lies a grave slab of rough granite. Set into the cross is a recessed bronze portrait medallion of A.F.
