4. Het GRAFMONUMENT VAN HEUKELUM
Omschrijving
Het GRAFMONUMENT VAN HEUKELUM is in het laatste kwart van de 19de eeuw vervaardigd in neogotische stijl. De ontwerper komt vermoedelijk uit de kringen van het St. Bernulphusgilde, omdat de stichter en leider van het in 1869 opgerichte Gilde, de Utrechtse priester Gerard van Heukelum tot de familie Van Heukelum behoorde.
Het grafmonument bestaat uit een staand en een liggend gedeelte. Het staande gedeelte, de stèle is gehouwen uit zandsteen en is voorzien van beeldhouwwerk in hoog reliëf. Het heeft een gebeeldhouwde architectuur-omlijsting van pinakels met casementen, hogels en kruisbloemen aan de voorzijde en beide zijkanten. De bovenzijde wordt afgesloten met een uitspringende lijst die is voorzien van kantelen. Tussen de pinakels bevindt zich een rechthoekig veld met een ondiepe driepasboogvormig afgesloten nis, waarvan de zwikken zijn gevuld met bloemen. In de nis bevindt zich een gebeeldhouwde halffiguur, voorstellend Christus die uit het graf verrijst en met zijn rechterhand een zegenend gebaar maakt en in zijn linker hand een kruisstaf met wimpel vasthoudt. Onder het graf bevindt zich een verdiept veld gevuld met een levensboom, waarin twee familiewapens zijn verstrengeld. Hierboven is in gotisch schrift in hoog reliëf het opschrift: "Ego . sum . resurrectio . et . vita" aangebracht.
Het liggende gedeelte bestaat uit een hardstenen plaat die versieringen en opschriften in gotische letters in laag reliëf heeft. De plaat draagt het volgende inschrift: "+B.E.H. van Heukelum/ geboren Ficq/ geboren VII Maart MDCCCXXX/ overleden XXIII Maart MDCCCLXXVII/ +N.W.A.J.M.H. van Heukelum/ geboren III December MDCCCLXVII/ Overleden XXIX Juli MDCCCLXVIII/ N.D. van Heukelum/ geboren VII Octob. MDCCCXXVII/ overleden XIV Juni MDCCCXCVI/ Hendrik Nicolaas Maria/ van Heukelum/ geboren XXII Aug. MDCCCLX/ Overleden VII Juli MCMXXIII". Description
The GRAVE MONUMENT OF VAN HEUKELUM was made in the last quarter of the 19th century in neo-gothic style. The designer presumably comes from the circles of the St. Bernulphus Guild, because the founder and leader of the Guild, established in 1869, the Utrecht priest Gerard van Heukelum belonged to the Van Heukelum family.
The grave monument consists of a standing and a lying part. The standing part, the stele, is carved from sandstone and is provided with sculpture in high relief. It has a carved architectural framing of pinnacles with casements, hogels and cruciform flowers on the front and both sides. The top is closed off with a projecting cornice which is provided with crenellations. Between the pinnacles is a rectangular field with a shallow trefoil-arched closed niche, whose spandrels are filled with flowers. In the niche is a carved half-figure, representing Christ rising from the grave and making a blessing gesture with his right hand and holding a cross-staff with a banner in his left hand.
