Omschrijving onderdeel 12: LEIDS TOLHEK (Groenendaal).
Tolhek gedateerd 1695 dat oorspronkelijk stond opgesteld langs de Leidsevaart nabij de Zandvoortselaan. Na afbraak is de poort hersteld en in 1926 opnieuw opgesteld in de zuidmuur van de moestuinmuur van Groenendaal. Het hek bestaat uit twee gemetselde hoofdpilaren met aansluitend een korte muurdam waarin een rondboogvenster. Vervolgens twee kleinere gemetselde pilaren. De hoofdpilaren hebben in- en uitzwenkende hoeken en worden gedekt met een forse natuurstenen bekroning waarin aan de ene zijde tegenover elkaar de stadswapens van Leiden en Haarlem en aan de andere zijde een accanthusblad met daarop vervolgens nog een kroon. De kleinere pilaren hebben eveneens een natuurstenen bekroning met daarop een bol gevat in een schelpmotief.

Description
Description of component 12: LEIDEN TOLL GATE (Groenendaal).
Toll gate dated 1695 that originally stood along the Leidsevaart near the Zandvoortselaan. After demolition the gate was restored and in 1926 re-erected in the south wall of the kitchen garden wall of Groenendaal. The gate consists of two brick main piers with an adjoining short wall section in which a round-arch window. Then two smaller brick piers. The main piers have inward and outward-turning angles and are covered with a substantial natural stone coping in which on one side facing each other are the city coats of arms of Leiden and Haarlem and on the other side an acanthus leaf with subsequently a crown. The smaller piers likewise have a natural stone coping with a ball set in a shell motif.

The toll gate is of significance:
